He was "OK" last season.

Played 696 snaps at RG for the Falcons.

Tall guy for guard 6'8". Kinda light for his height- 309lbs.

Never have enough ol depth. We've got 6 ol who I see as locks. But everything else is up in the air.

I think the Cowboys would like a little more experience at guard for the 2nd team offensive line during training camp.

Right now the 2nd team offensive line would be:

Tackles: Parnell, Weems
Center: Bern
Guard: ?

And for the 2nd team offense to be able to show something in the preseason a little more help at guard would be beneficial.

Why not, there is no one on the roster on the OL that seems ready to challenge anyone for some decent depth.
WE need some competition there. Starters are set with one backup.
I'm not sold on Parnell or Weems yet.

Don't know too much about the guy, but I'm all for bringing him in. Our o line depth scares me a little bit, and 6'8" 26 year old players with starting experience don't grow on trees. I wouldn't expect too much out of him, but he sounds like a good low risk player.

We may see Leary play some on that unit. Possibly Martin as well.

He was drafted as a RT

Garrett Reynolds (OT)
Height: 6'8"
Weight: 309
College: North Carolina
Conference: ACC
Hometown: Knoxville, TN
High School: Carter

Selected by: Atlanta Falcons
Round: 5
Pick (Overall): 20 (156)
Discuss

Pick Analysis: The former Tar Heel is a tough, hard-nosed blocker with the size to be an imposing right tackle as a pro. With time, Reynolds could develop into a potential starter.

Overview Reynolds may lack the flashy athleticism that characterizes many of this year's top tackle prospects, but his toughness and reliability on the right side could help him ultimately enjoy a more established pro career than some rated ahead of him. A three-year starter, with his action almost exclusively at right tackle, Reynolds has the frame and physicality to remain at the position at the next level. He lacks the speed to handle speed rushers, however, and isn't the consistent drive blocker his size might indicate. Had an arm span of 34 1/2 inches and a hand span of 9 3/4 inches at the combine.

High School Ranked among the top 15 players in Tennessee by Rivals.com and SuperPrep ... Named all-state at defensive tackle in 4-A schools ... Associated Press honorable-mention all-state selection on offense ... Three-year starter on both the offensive line and defensive line ... Had four sacks and 76 tackles on defense as a senior ... Coached by Heath Woods.

Analysis Positives: High-cut with the thick-lower body build scouts prefer for the strong-side tackle position. Good initial burst off the snap as a run blocker. Provides an initial pop at the line and can generate movement. Good upper body strength to lock up defenders. Improved sustain of blocks as a senior. Alert in pass protection. Recognizes the blitz and reacts accordingly. Good bloodlines; father, Art, and uncle, Jack, both played professional football. Jack, better known by his nickname "Hacksaw," played 15 years in the NFL for the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers.

Negatives: Over-achiever type. Has the size and toughness, but may lack the pure athleticism for the NFL. Too high in his stance and in his hand placement in pass protection and can be pushed into the pocket because he loses the leverage battle. Good effort to block on the move, but isn't particularly nimble, especially laterally.

I think it's a worthwhile look. Reynolds has started in the league, and is young, cheap and would be solid as a backup.

What a difference the offensive line has become in the last three years.

One of these years we have to determine if these guys are NFL players or not.

Parnell has proven to be a solid backup.

Weems has only been on the team 1 year.

I would really like to see one of them challenge Free in the preseason. The Cowboys are always going to be limited on what types of running plays that the can use going to the right with Doug Free at the RT. He is a wall-off run blocker that can't get movement and can't execute reach type blocks. I'm a little concerned with Martin next to him because Bernadeau did a lot to compensate for Free in the 2013. Martin is not only going to have to learn to play Guard in the NFL, but he will have to learn the techniques that Bern and Waters used to help Free.
