Raiders | Sims Playing Well, Likely Staying as Starter - from www.KFFL.com

Jerry McDonald, of the Oakland Tribune, reports Oakland Raiders head coach Norv Turner said OT Barry Sims is playing so well in training camp that he sees him playing at left tackle when the season begins. Sims was expected to give way to rookie OT Robert Gallery, but this isn't the first time the undrafted free agent has held off a first-round draft choice.

He's being moved to Guard.............

Geez, Nors, it doesn't make him a bust if a more veteran player is out playing him at this early stage. Plus he lost some camp time to injury, didn't he? If Norv can avoid some rookie mistakes at the LT position as he is installing his O, because another player is excelling, more power to him.

Even a talent as great as Gallery is still gonna have a learning curve.

A certain LT by the name of Ogden started at guard his rookie season.

"This is not an uncommon development for first-round draft choices. Raiders tackle Lincoln Kennedy began his career at guard; so did Baltimore's Jonathan Ogden, who made the Pro Bowl last season as a tackle.

"You're protected on both sides at guard," Kennedy said. "That gives you a chance to look at the game speed without getting thrown to the wolves. You don't have to see the Derrick Thomases of the world right away."

If he does not translate to Tackle thats a bust pick top 3 overall pick? You don't pay Guards that change.

I had Gallery on my overrated list last draft. I only watched him twice but I thought he might not translate as well as projected. Time will tell.

I saw an interview with Lincoln Kennedy (former Raider OL) and Frank Middleton (Current Raider LG) on NFL network. Basically, Kennedy was asking how the offensive line looked this year. Middleton's answer (Paraphrased) was that Gallary was a monster. He said that the guy was dominating and nasty. Said Gallary did stuff that he couldn't even do. Not just technique but all the sneaky **** too. Said he was a keeper, no question.

There's nothing wrong with Gallary. He has been hurt and he needs time to get right. Guard has much less responsability and so, it makes sense to put him there. Doesn't mean anything more then that.

Give the guy some time. It's not even regular season yet.

He'll find the field, don't expect him to stay at guard his whole career.

(6:00 PM): Raiders top pick demoted...Oakland has reportedly replaced Robert Gallery, the second player selected overall at the 2004 draft, as the team's starting LT. Taking over at the position is veteran Barry Sims who started all 16 games at the position for the Raiders last fall. Meanwhile, for now Gallery will work at OG a position he has never played.
