Could be, but Watkins is not just some PS player learning. If not for a numbers game he would have made the 53 man roster.
They keep a young player like Gallimore with upside at that point.
And other teams do so as well, so therefore it was safe to keep Watkins on the PS. Unless injuries decimate another team, he should be safe though.

- If Watkins were good enough, against the numbers game , he would have made the 53 roster.

- Rookie Ridgeway did not have an impressive summer, yet they intitially kept him in their 53 roster over vet Watkins.
before he was cut and the plan was to add Ridge to the PS himself.

- But Watkins vs the younger DTs like Osa, Gallimore, Hill was more about the investment in young more long term potential players, that were gonna be be
bigger difference makers than Watkins.

- Opposing teams could easily pouch the vet Watkins off the practice squad and add him to their active roster, if he were thought that valued around the NFL.

Take it for what it's worth, but the "Players Lounge" podcast from DallasCowboys.com was all over him yesterday. All of the guys (Barry Church, Danny McCray, and I think Nate Newton) said they liked Gallimore when he was drafted, but said he wasn't getting the job done.

.....I watched part of this yesterday. Basically, he's not playing to potential.

Jones & Co want to win this year. THey went ahead and grabbed Hankins. Which I think, was good move. Gally is still very good backup.

Gallimore is looking like a bust and isn’t likely to see a second contract with the Cowboys. Could be gone after this season. His college tape looked good and I had pretty high hopes for him, but he isn’t panning out. Tristan Hill is looking better.

Gallimore looks fat and plays lazy. Looks like he was taking Romo lessons in the off-season. No one is going to trade for the bum or give you anything for him. Time to cut bait and draft another one next April.

Something has been up with him since the preseason. Remember he was the lone starting DL playing in the 2nd half of meaningless preseason games

I suspect they were expecting big things from him but he has been a dissapointment.Dallas will never have traded for Haskins if they were good with Gallimore.

Gallimore played in the game yesterday. I wonder if they worked out their issues.

I see it more as some players must be inactive. And sometimes they need players at a certain position for strategy over others.
We will see going forward.

That's why I think they sat Zeke last week.

There's really no controversy in my mind. I just think Pollard matched up way better against the Bears. And the Cowboys were correct by taking that gamble.
