He only had 10 rushing attempts and 6 receptions in the 2015 preseason.
He is big 6-3, 226; however, he didn't really run like a power back. He did get outside and 1-on-1 against a DB and pushed him back a few yards but generally he more often lunged forward into contact while leaving his feet instead of keeping his feet and powering forward.
Oddly he reminds me of a bigger but slower version of McFadden. He probably has slightly more wiggle than McFadden but he's a similar upright, straight line type runner or he was in this limited sample. They both seem to be susceptible to shoe string tackles and both tend to lunge into the line leaving their feet.
I didn't see him in any pass blocking situations.
He looked comfortable catching the ball but he's obviously not a Dunbar replacement.
There an old article that indicated that he was an excellent special teams player in his limited time in college. I'm sure that the Cowboys would like their 3rd RB to be a significant ST contributor. The coaches made some comments after Dunbar's injury about him being one of the top ST players so there is an opening there.
Maybe he'll be a better fit in the Cowboys blocking scheme than he was in Seattle but he's not the type RB I expected to see them add to the 53. He didn't play much in college so he does have some possible upside with time and coaching.
From his college Head Coach:
We probably won't have him back.' Not a bad guy, just struggled academically, didn't do much."
Meyer said there's no chance Smith will return to the team, but he will remain on scholarship and the team will work to keep him on pace to graduate this summer.
Smith played sparingly in the Buckeyes' win over Penn State on Saturday night. He had 101 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries this season, and finished his career with 549 yards and eight touchdowns.
