I was thinking about how the Cowboys defense can try to attack Kirk Cousins.

I remember several years ago, I can’t remember the exact year? But it was when Kirk was a Commander.

During one of the games, I’m pretty sure a primetime game, Marinelli ran a really aggressive gameplan. He frequently sent blitzed into the A gaps, forcing pressure right in Kirk’s face all game long.

It was really effective and caused Kirk a lot of problems. I believe the defense gave up very few points that night.

it was a very surprising game, because Marinelli was much more aggressive than normal in regards to blitzing that game.

Is there anyway we see a similar gameplan this Sunday? Is blitzing the A gaps one of the best ways to rattle Kirk and get him to make mistakes?

obviously blitzing heavy puts the back end at risk against receivers like Diggs and Thielen. But if Thielen is out. Perhaps it’s the best strategy to help.

Blitz Blitz Blitz

Cousins is the statue of liberty back there.

Cousins will sling it and get his stats but ultimately throw you a few WT Freak INT or two and lose the game.

Good points. Cousins is a timing dependent QB with a decent arm. Like a lot of QBs, he depends on getting in a rhythm to be effective. Guys like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson are dangerous when you blitz them. But Cousins doesn’t handle rushing his timing as well as guys like Rodgers and Wilson. Like you, I’m hoping the Cowboys implement some unusual blitzes early and often.

I think we can beat minnesota.
the one guy I worry about...for lack of a better term...is DE Everson Griffen.
good v the run.
good at getting his arms up,swatting down passes.
Dak needs to settle....stay alert and just play his game.
they're good.
but we're better.

You want to stop Cousins?

I am more worried about stopping the Vikings run game. They are ranked ahead of Dallas in terms of rushing yards per game.

Stop the run without committing bodies and Kirk Cousins will take care of himself.

Agreed. Kirk struggles if the pressure “moves him
Off his spot”.

I want to stop all of their offense.

you are correct though. Containing Dalvin Cook will be priority #1 on the defenses keys to victory.

If they maintain their gap integrity like they did against the eagles and giants, I think they can do that. But they cannot get sloppy and be out of position.

I am glad we are at home. Big advantage.

Gotta stop the run so our DL can pin their ears back and rush. My gameplan would be simple:

1. Play smart, clean, disciplined football and get the early lead

2. Control the LOS on both sides of the ball

3. Eliminate Dalvin Cook as much as possible

4. Control the TOP and wear down the Vikings D

5. Put Cousins in long down and distances and beat the crap out of him physically and never let him get comfortable. RELENTLESS UNFORGIVING PRESSURE!!!

You blitz all night. I don’t want to see them get another yard or god as my witness I will take everyone of you out. I want them to remember the night they played the Cowboys. Garrett run it up. Leave no doubt.
Is what Marinelli should say. I am just channeling my inner Remember the Titans speech.
