Three straight losss to the Dallas Cowboys in the same season, including the one that gave the Eagles the boot from the playoffs - 34-14 on Saturday night - suggests that there's a major gap between the two teams right now.
Eagles coach Andy Reid said in his press conference on Monday that it's his job to close that gap.
"I’m going to make sure we do that," Reid said. "That’s a great goal for us as players and coaches. You’re sitting on that bench press and you want to push yourself through one more rep, you think of that last game right there. That will help get you through any of those times you don’t want to workout. Same way as a coach, you don’t want to watch another film, think of that game right there man and detail it a little better than what you detailed it that time and become a better football team."
How big is the gap? Well, losing by a 58-14 margin in back-to-back games suggests very big, but Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown doesn't think it's as large as it seems.
Actually, Brown doesn't even think there is a gap, but now has the offseason to rethink.
"The only year that we did get to the Bowl [2005], everybody we started the season with we ended it with and I'm pretty sure if you go look at Dallas' roster the guys they ended training camp with are still on that football field playing and that's why they are executing and playing well right now," Brown said.
"That's the thing about football you don't know who is going to go down at what given time. The salary cap and depth makes it kind of tough."
The Eagles had weaknesses on both sides of the ball that the Cowboys exposed, proving that there is a gap, but the Eagles were socked by injuries all season.
Maybe, next season, a healthier Eagles team really will close the gap.
