This report is nonsense. If anybody has actually watched Detmer play, they would know he'll be lucky to even make the team, much less earn the backup role.

Timmy Chang has outplayed Detmer at every opportunity and the Eagles' coaches have had their punter work on holding for Akers.

I'll be shocked if Detmer makes the roster, much less challenging for the #2 job.....

Detmer is garbage and Henson proved in NFLE he's better than Timmy Chang. If Henson signed with Philly he could easily be the backup next year IMO. Garcia is about as much fun for a coach as a hair shirt. His main attribute was his legs and they're pretty much gone. His arm makes Romo's look like a cannon. Having said that he'd be my choice for backup there right now but if I were his agent I'd tell him to rent not buy in Philly.

Uncertain how this particular thread got started, but I am certain that it is just a waste of time. I watched Detmer last year, who was 3rd string to McMahon. McMaHon made Detmer look bad, and McMahon was a scrub from the get-go (or git-go ...or however You'd like to say it).

Enter Garcia. Didn't start off the preseasy too well, but seems to be improving rapidly. I think he'll compliment the D-Nabb well and is already an improvement over McMahon ...and yes Detmer by far!

I don't think Detmer would be a good 3rd even for Dallas. Wait ...he does hold the ball well for field goal attempts.

Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Jeff Garcia is worried about the backup quarterback job to QB Donovan McNabb. QB Koy Detmer has been the starting holder for PK David Akers since 2000. Garcia said being the No. 3 quarterback was not something he envisioned when he signed here. He added, "It does [matter], when it comes down to somebody who's needed to step in and essentially play... I'd like to think that I can be that guy. Hopefully, we won't have to deal with that [Donovan getting hurt]. I'm not just here to just stand around - and that's not saying that that's the job of the third-string quarterback, because there are responsibilities that are required of everybody. But I'm a competitive person. If, God forbid, anything were to happen to Donovan, I want to be that guy who steps in and helps this team win games."

How does Philly, and more importantly McNabb, respond to a backup quarterback trying to throw his weight around like this?

Has anyone got the actual quote? The quote in post 9 indicates he wants to step in if McNabb goes down, which is what the #3 qb does in Philly. McMahon was the 3rd QB last year but started once McNabb was pulled.

If Detmer makes the roster (I've been praying he won't every night but god's will is god's will) then he'll be the #2 in name only so that he can hold for Akers who loves the guy. But if McNabb misses any time Garcia will be the one to actually start.

I watched Chang his entire college career...if he is the guy in Philly they will be crushed. He doesn't even belong in an NFL camp.

That's not the issue...we shouldn't care because all of their options are bad which is good for us. If McNabb goes down. I could game plan against any of the three left.
