Did that say he's going to make 16 mil in his first year? He's not worth that
He's barely worth half that. I bet the Michael Irvin's/Jerry Rice's of the world would give up one of their own children to play for a contract in today's NFL.

Good time to be an aging decent FA.
Note.. I didn't say good/great... just wait until those numbers start coming in.
Start practicing your back flips, wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.

$16M is a stupid amount for Garcon, assuming it's true (and it may not be). But that's what happens when teams have tons of money to spend. Expect to see more of this in the days ahead.
It's front loaded. They are preparing for the future so the have a bunch of cheap contracts to work with. I mean if you have the money why not?

I wonder if this is a sign that the Niners are actually really in play for Cousins?

16 mil for Garçon is absurd.

I think Shanahan and Lynch will only take the 49'ers further down the drain. Next move they'll make is to give up draft compensation for the priviledge of overpaying Kirk Cousins.

???
more than Antonio Brown
more than Julio Jones
more than AJ Green
I could go on.. He's was the #2 receiver to Jackson
and hes going to a team that needs a lot more than a WR including a qb
all this doe is F up the salary structure for WR's

This makes even more sense for the 9ers if Cousins will be following him to S.F.

I could care less, our offense will be fine. We need to address defense.

It's actually the opposite scenario since people aren't really familiar with Garcon. Garcon and Kirk do not get along nor have they ever. Garcon was lobbying for Colt McCoy after the RG3 debacle, not Kirk. Garcon also asked for a trade mid season last year. If this is any indication of Kirk/49ers, this says that Kirk IS NOT going to sign/traded to the 49ers.

Yes. At age 30. It's clear how out of whack this free agency period is going to be. It's even more of a players' market than many of us already thought.

Teams are going to pay great money for good players.

Teams are going to pay what they have to pay to sign players. Prices are always going up. Teams have cap space all year, and they have roughly 1-2 weeks to utilize it on quality free agents. After that, the quality is gone and the cap space just sits there. Looks a little like the movement in players salaries is trailing the cap hikes by 1-2 seasons so I would expect big dollars for not so big players to only get worse. This is why all these salary cap projections 3,4, and 5 years out are just wasted effort. I doubt many franchises put that much thought into years that far out.

Coupled with the fact that teams hold onto their truly great players and the ones that do make it to market are scooped up by the have-nots.

That too. Gotta pay for what you can. If the best you can possibly get is a guy who is just "good" then that will have to do even if you have to pay him like he's "great". If you want the players, you have to pay them. Plenty of teams can spend money and need to spend money.
