Garrett a bit more transparent?

I watched his presser today and Garrett seems to be a bit less canned in his dialogue.

He still stresses the same disciplines of his tenure, but he seems to be a bit more genuine in helping the press understand his rationale, puts a few more pieces together for them, etc. He seems to be a bit more reflective on some questions instead of answering everything with the mantras that everyone knows by now.

Changing gears a bit, I'm admittedly a Garrett fan. That said, I found myself listening tonight and wondering what some would see in this presser that would suggest he won't be successful. I think you get a sense today of his thinking everything through, considering different possibilities, then making his decisions.

I certainly respect those who are withholding of their support at this point. But I wonder if they had 30 minutes to dialogue with him if they wouldn't come away with a bit different feeling.

Interested in the thoughts of others who watched today's presser.

If you ask him certain questions you will invariably get the canned answer. Examples include questions about Bryant and Jenkins but in the opening presser he talked about the evolution of TC since the dawn of football and gave examples of techniques that they work with Romo on.

I wouldn't go so far as to say transparent but he seems to be more confident in what he is willing to talk about and has certainly opened up. I didn't blame him for treating the media like backstabbing hostiles as I think they are but that is what he did last season.

I got the same impression, just listening to his presser today. He went into lot of details on some stuff that Media asked, which was informative too and give bit more of what Garrett is trying to do.

And yes, I have been a Garrett fan, even before he became an OC, due to what I heard about him etc. Then it only increased when he became an OC and what I heard about his interviews with other teams and what people like Strahan have said about him ( I am not even going to talk about Aikman/Irvin/Emmit etc since they were his teammates).

As far as some people not believing or not liking him or think he is not going to succeed, I doubt nothing will ever change their mind. I know few of them, will never ever support him no matter what that post here.

Its easy to see after the fact, but its hard to see good/great before it actually proves out. I am firmly in the camp, of Garrett destined for greatness. I am not 100% it for sure will happen with Dallas, but it will happen for him, if he stays long enough in NFL.

He only referred to "all 3 phases" a few times. So that's a big plus. :laugh2:

J/k as I am a JG fan too. Can't too see how he has made positive changes this year in all phases of his coaching :laugh2:

He did want to bring in Callahan to help with some of his offense duties.
That in itself shows he knows what needs to be addressed.

It would be better if you had legit fans asking questions. The media is clueless.

We want to know about guys like Bruce Carter and Ron Leary, and instead they like to ask dumb questions they know they wont get answers to.

Yes, I see I'm not the only one who noticed that. He seemed fired up and more animated than usual. Garrett put on a clinic in my opinion. Then again, I am a BIG Garrett fan. :starspin

Actually, Strahan was a teammate of his too. Garrett played for the Giants after he left the Cowboys.

I believe Coach Garrett is settling in and getting comfortable. I noticed a difference too before ever reading that others did as well. I am just happy he has someone assisting him with the offense; I believe Coach Garrett was spreading himself too thin last year. I think he is doing a He double hockey stick of a job. And I am looking forward for his leadership to be fully revealed before others try to railroad him out of Dallas.

Don't think there was much of that in this latest session. Garrett was pretty accomodating in providing some level of insight in his responses.

he is learning on the job and learning very quickly. that's impressive. he is his own worst critic and stands up for his players and his coaches. so they know he is got their back.

he is also rebuilding the team. not wishing a player was this. he is seeing the weaknesses and he is addressing them, regardless of which player was already there. for example we drafted murray, where we had Felix already. he knows felix is not a lead back, so he didn't hesitate. we drafted an OL man in the first round for the first time in a couple of decades. he is doing what Parcells use to do, contineously churn the bottom of the roster.

I think most fans and media, way over rated the cowboys talent base (focusing on skilled positions on the offensive side), and didn't realize how empty the cubbard was at OL, DL, DBs, etc.

I know I was one of them. Got caught up in the hype but somehow forgot the game is won and lost in the trenches. Both lines were getting pushed around at times. I do think we will se better play in the trenches tor sure. I don't know if it'll take us to the playoffs but I do see a team being built the right way under Garrett.

jg seems to be doing good as a head coach which i didnt think he would. But i still questio him being the oc and i have for years now!!

I know, but he was not vested into Garrett like maybe Aikman was since Aikman almost considered him a coach. Strahan probably doesn't normaly interact that much with a backup QB, especially one that wasn't there for a long time unlike in dallas.

if you look at the good offensive teams around the league, they either have a Rodgers type of QB play and tons of WRs to throw to. or they have a very good OL.

we have been dealing with bad OL for years and have had one or at best two good WRs.

only so much you can do. also with garrett we have been top 10 offensively 4 years during his tenure.

It's interesting how the NFL chooses to rank offensive performance by yardage yet you choose to go by points and not even mention it. It does deviate from NFL convention of ranking offenses after all.

But hey when trying to present something in the worst possible light I guess that's just how it goes.
