First off, I'd like to say this is not a bash Garrett thread. I think he's actually one of the most talented coaches in the NFL.
Even Houdini could not have escaped any blame for leading a team to a 1-7 start while Wade took all the heat, muchless parlay that situation into a promotion. We should have all appreciated Garrett's talent at that point alone. It takes a true, true PROFESSIONAL to blow the lead we had vs. the Jets and then gather yourself up and figure out how to coach your team into blowing an even more secure lead (24 points to be exact) a couple weeks later. Also, I LOVE how good he remains at evading criticism. It's like nobody even noticed his 4th down debacle against the Commanders where he called a timeout to punt, and how he conveniently got his rookie center thrown under the bus for failing to adjust to the cadence issue. Now all the heat is on Romo for that Lions game. That is awesome.
Garrett is a uniquely talented individual in this sense and I think we're very lucky to have him help keep this team at 0.500. He also speaks in such a deep voice during press conferences. Gosh I love that deep voice and how he preaches discipline, but that I don't see an improvement in discipline at all over the last couple years. I don't see much improvement in him as OC over that time period also. Anyway...I just read the following excerpt about Reid, and it reminded me of Ginger Tecmo Bowl genius quite a bit. Anyone else see an Andy Reid version 2.0 firmly implanting himself into this organization for 13+ years like they have over in Philly?
"A classic Andy season thus far: The Eagles have outgained their opponents by 275 yards, notched 25 more first downs, held the ball for 16-plus more minutes … and they're 1-3. Last week's Niners debacle featured Andy's usual goal-line struggles, an inexplicable pass/run ratio (how can a team that led 23-3 finish with a 2-to-1 pass/run ratio) and the 573rd time I made the "Andy needs to hire a 14-year-old pimply faced Madden junkie to help him with clock management down the stretch" joke (as Mike Lombardi pointed out, it's the umpteenth straight year that Andy botched the "how do you handle your timeouts around the two-minute warning?" dilemma, which isn't really a dilemma because there's only one way to handle it)"
