The cowboys are basically limiting the amount of damage Garrett can do by limiting his influence

Ouch.
Harsh words.
I think you may be wrong, but I'm not so brazen about it to dismiss that you may be right.

Shoot:
In a roundabout way I think I have been in agreement with you on this the whole time upon reflection.
The more he can manage the Game on a Game level and not on a granular, play by play level is- in my opinion a good thing.

I guess I just think about the situation in a different way while coming to the same conclusion.

My problem with Garret has always been that he chucks the playbook once things start going awry.

In Tenn everything went right. The run worked. Romo didn't make any mistakes (thank you Jason). We got ahead and stayed there.

I'll certainly give him kudos for Sunday. That was easy, the plan worked. Great job coming up with the successful plan.

But I will be more impressed when things go to heck and he still sticks to his plan, or better yet adjusts with a new plan, and doesn't just lean back on Romo. Because I'm not sure he's going to be able to do that this year.

Coming from one of the biggest anit-Garrett guys on here, I will give him his props for Sunday. He looked in control out there but Tenn never really came close to making it interesting. I suspect we won't know until NO comes to town to test this theory.

Adjusting is my biggest concern with him, not pre-game strategy or even his(boring) demeanor. It is his inability to adjust on the fly that irks me. I can deal with an occasional wrong decision and such but he needs to be better prepared throughout 60 minutes IMO.

My only critique would have been that he subbed in randle more before randle got knocked out. Murray looked tired going into and after the half. Felt like he left some yards out there because of it. Randle looked eager still when he was in. Plus, it's week 2 and demarco needs help making it through the year.

But I was okay with him out there so the complaint is really minor.

Steve Dennis related a conversation earlier in the week that he'd had with Jason Garrett previously about how specifically Jason wanted to get back to the composition of some of those 90s teams he was on. It's a pretty good listen-to if you haven't heard it yet. Fair warning: a lot of preconceived notions based on nothing more than press conference demeanor might have to be left at the door if the stories are to be believed, though.

If you are going to make up stories at least make them good.

Jerry Jones learned very early in his own process with the Dallas Cowboys, how important a positive leader on the defense was, as he benefited by from Dave Wannestedt grabbing hold of his early team's defense. He was brought from Miami as a tag-a-long with the David Shula offer. The Dallas defense benefited as it did when Monte Kiffin was brought in along with Dave Marinelli. Marinelli is a loyalty person, and that is going down into his players.

But Jerry also learned that a quality franchise quarterback needs an offense geared to it's quarterback. What was Jason Garrett during his playing days? A quarterback. To be a great coach, one doesn't have to have been great at the position, just fully understand it. Having White and Garrett to attend to Tony Romo is a strong bind. It is offensive friendly. The thing needed then, was a strong Offensive Coordinator who can fully function in that role in today's NFL. Today, they struck gold in gaining services of Bill Callahan. Norv Turner was just 37 when he directed a quality offense...and Garrett was comparable. He just needed the full pallet of players to bring it about. But with Callahan, he can now trust in his own staff and see to the game better.

This will pull overtime work now. For the staff on today's Dallas Cowboys, is every inch as good as it was at year 1992.

In similar positions, Marinelli is every inch the coach that Wannestedt was. And Callahan is up to a similar task that was Turner. We are just starting to see this now.

But in this fan's eyes, you don't have the character flames scorching players that one had with Jimmy Johnson. He burned roots and alienated a lot on the team with his style and character. Scorched earth isn't sustainable on football teams. Sorry, but Jimmy's team wasn't built beyond view of his own feelings then.

Today, a player can put trust and his heart in the process that Jason Garrett presents...not a personality raining down on him. To a soldier, that means the world, as he can put his life's juices in with the person fighting alongside of him. That is a huge step, that will pay by a forged steel as time continues...

I don't care if it's Jason or the assistants but the Cowboys actually had a workable good game plan last Sunday.

It worked.

Keep doing that.

Little odd, IMO. Dallas was more dedicated to the run because Garrett has better command (or whatever) now that he doesn't have to be the person who immediately decides whether or not the team runs on any given down.

Yeah. And add to that that Romo had a bad game the week prior and not fully recovered from his back surgery and it's no surprise the team went heavy on the running game. This is going to be a run heavy team until Romo is recovered from his back surgery. It's not because Garrett had some epiphany after 4 years.

Dallas is 2nd in the NFL in rushing attempts. In spite of the loss to SF, and with a solid game plan and execution against the Titans. Things in the 1st 2 games look like a positive more than a negative.
Rather that's a better than expected defense, though bigger test are coming, an improved and what looks can be a dominating OL. If it's better players and healthier than the end of last year, which many compare future results based on past history of "bad street" players, which aren't on the team anymore. But maybe a few are in eyes of some. Or the coaching staff has got their formula right, or seems to so far.

But some still think this running game is a sham until Romo gets better, or Garrett gets an itching passing finger...I just have nothing to say, or won't say it anyway.
Through 2 games, I like what I see. I won't speculate on the future play calling. But some people, the usuals, don't like it, that Garrett may actually has it right. All the same complaints. How about giving it a few more games.
Not every game will be a balanced game, there will be games that will be pass heavy.
