IRVING, Texas - Other than losing the game, and seeing his starting quarterback on the turf for several minutes, head coach Jason Garrett was rather annoyed by another aspect from Monday’s game:
Poor tackling.
“That’s the biggest thing that jumped out at me from watching the tape is the tackling,” Garrett said on Tuesday. “And unfortunately for us, a few of those plays were possibly tackles for loss. We have him trapped in the backfield and they wiggle free and they make a 10-12 yard run, an 18-yard run, those plays hurt you. And some of our best tacklers, didn't tackle well.”
Specifically, guys like Barry Church and Rolando McClain both missed their share of open-field tackles. Church called it the worst game of his career and described his own play as “terrible.”
The Commanders ran for 123 yards on 31 carries for a 4.0 yard average. Alfred Morris led the way with 73 yards on 18 attempts. There was a big play in the third quarter when Washington trailed 7-3 and had first-and-25 but Roy Helu ran for 18 yards to get the Commanders back in position to score. On the play, Helu broke at least three tackles down the left sideline for a big chunk of yards. Two plays later, they took the lead.

Oh, no doubt! The defense must have thought they were all that good with what they had been doing so far.

However, sometimes you are the baseball, sometimes you are the bat. The Cowboys were the baseball this game.

Unexpected I guess but these players are on multiple teams for a reason. Fundamentals are the only reason the defense gets by so once that falters (how could it not once in awhile) then it really exposes us.

Good one.

That's exactly what happened. Singles, doubles triples... A few over the fence.

I'm sure our defensive guys are looking forward to a fun week with Rod Marinelli.

No doubt Rod is going to lay into them this week. They tackled poorly they often took bad angles and it cost them. I fully expect McClain and Church to redeem themselves along with some other guys on the defense.

After Helu made that huge run, I really thought I had been transported to the Twilight Zone. It was surreal. Maybe it was the Mike's Hard Lemonade...

I hope Marinelli can devote enough practice time re-instilling tackling fundamentals this week. Solid tackling has been a strength for the defense this season and we need consistent tackling to return pronto.

And the catcher got beaned right in the head. The shortstop was asleep, the first baseman can't catch, second base was not looking, the third base player missed a catch. The outfield I don't even want to talk about!

Garrett has a lot be annoyed about after that game, the only positive thing is Garrett can use the game to make a useful film "How Not To Play Football".

I think they ate the Gruden's cheese about being flying objects.

Capped off with a Chuck Knoblauch throw to first base that sailed into the stands and hit a fan in the head....Twice!!! Lol

The defense got embarrassed again. They need to deal with all that.

The offense was just...lazy. Did they think it was just going to be a practice game?

I hope the Coaches know what to do. It didn't seem like it.

Jerry screwed it all up with his stupid headphones!

I hope they did not have a good nights sleep last night. People are laughing at them and they deserve it.

we noticed this during the game. I swore that these guys had to be greased up or were wearing lotion or something b/c it's tough to explain how Rolando McClain could hit a guy and basically slide off.

The team is playing as hard as they can right now. They have a short week against AZ, and then the bye. It's takes some damn good football players to do what they have done so far.

What viewers don't know is that headphone set was a top secret thought amplifer device. Jones intended on broadcasting one thought throughout the entire stadium: "Don't re-sell your tickets!" Unfortunately, Jones thinks like he talks and the actual message was, "Do buy your umm tickets but re-consider re-investing er those Dallas Cowboys seat guarantees to umm yourselves and folks like yourselves. Wink wink."

I don't think he succeeded.

His team did not succeed this game either!

Stay OFF the headphones, Jerry! He's really messing things up!

This is the NFL.. If ANY of you thought we weren't losing another game, you're not much on the history of the league. We will lose a couple more before it's over. Let's just hope one of them is the last game of the year.

I don't like watching baseball because I used to play it. I should have watched a baseball game instead of what I saw last night.

Dude! The other team came into our dugout and stole some of our bats...took a catchers mitt! Did you see that?

And..they let the ball boy come in and steal the game ball! WTH
