Garret is aware of motion, bunch formation, etc. correct? Almost putting it on Dez cause he tells him to run an out from his standard position with triple coverage (BEAT IT DEZ).

Hahah it's always funny to me when message board fans actually believe they know more about offensive football than Jason Garrett. Apply for the job if you think you can do better. I'm sure you'll blow Jerry and Stephen away when you draw up some genius on the whiteboard.

I LIKED your post. I think I hit the UNLIKE button by mistake.
Sorry, bro. Trying to get used to the new Forum buttons.

Lol, all good. The new forum buttons are a little different though haha.

FYI, if it's not obvious to everybody, you only get an 'unlike' option *after* you've already 'liked' a post. You can 'like' again if you inadvertently 'unlike' something. If you dislike something, you need to put that in your hat, and smoke it, because we're all Cowboys fans here.

Didn't Witten have like 15 catches in that game? That's the beauty of having many weapons. You want to devote three of your players to one of our guys? Good luck with that.

Yeah, he had 15 catches for like 90 yards or something and slipped by with a win, any team would love Witten to take Bryants catches.

The thing is, teams would prefer Witten to have 15 catches. In that game, Witten had 15 catches and over 100 yards and we BARELY won. We won on less than 2 minute drive and ended up winning by 1 point. But the idea is, teams have a better chance of winning by taking out your big play making receiver as evidenced when T.O. was stuck with 3 rec, and with Dez in Sundays game stuck with 4.

I feel like this whole conversation is moot. Tony got hurt and couldn't throw deep. This is evidenced by the one time we saw Tony throw to Dez deep, in which the pass ended up being quite short. On that play we saw Tony wince considerable afterwards, and we also saw Dez get wide open deep. If Tony is able to make that throw, Dez has a good night and no talks about his inability to handle double teams.

I agree Dez HAS to be able to beat the double team if he wants to be considered great in this league. You can't have the opponent dictate to you what you should do. Garrett watched Irvin beat double teams sometimes by calling plays like quick slants, skinny posts, WR screens and just when the double team got tighter, would go over the top. I think Dez can do it, but he needs to be able to take the hit in the middle. It's ok to use him as a decoy, but come on, he needs to make BIG plays as well.

While Dez need to beat the double teams at times, the OC needs to design plays to get him open. Teams have figured out this stale offense since we broke out in 2007. There is no imagination. No exploiting the other team's weaknesses for the most part. Hardly any motion at all to confuse them. And we allow them to get set and make all the adjustments they need.

Good offensive coordinators find ways to get their star players the ball. Double teams are nothing new.

Yeah we have a new coordinator but this is still the same playbook. It's like firing the chef but keeping the same exact recipes and cookbook. You aren't going to get much different results.

Or maybe it's all those audibles...

Those guys do get doubled a lot but beat the double teams and still make plays. Dez has to do the same.

Exactly - AJ Green is double teamed every week. It is what it is and Dez better get use to it (and adjust).

Once Austin , Williams, and the running game kicks in. Dez won't be able to be doubled. It will hopefully work out to all the talent Dallas has at WR pays off and defenses are left with " who to cover."..

Until then? Yes, Dez is gonna be doubled. So, hopefully the rest cash in.

Too bad. That had "head to end zone like an animal" written all over it :)

I have to apply for a coaching position in the NFL before I can state that it is obvious that we don't motion Dez or use bunch formations? Isn't that simple observation? It seems that plently of other teams with premier #1 WRs are gameplanned AROUND double teams but I guess I better get my resume started first? OK

Marvin Harrison lined up in the same spot play-after-play, week-after-week, year-after-year. Go complain to his former coaching staff about how egregiously poor Marvin was misused.

You have stats that show no bunch formations and motion was used at all in this offense?

point is, the other team knows they are really good and want to stop them but their OCs create situations where they are not doubled

our HC (previous OC) does not seem to have the capacity to do that
hopefully the current OC can do a better job

Did Detroit forget how to get Calvin the ball? Or did they finally have a weapon that could exploit how defenses play Calvin? Did I dream up Reggie Bush 's week 1 performance?

Our OC/HC combo cant create those situations? Was Dez's second half last year a dream?
