Garrett arrives in St. Louis for “second interview” with Rams

By Jim Thomas
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Jason Garrett landed in St. Louis early Friday evening with his wife Brill, and told the Post-Dispatch that he was just here for a second interview and that no job had been offered.

Minutes earlier, en route to the airport, Devaney was singing the same tune.

“It’s part of the interview process,” Devaney insisted. “He wanted to look at the facility. We’re not close to moving on Jason Garrett. I’m not even going to say he’s the leading guy.”

Take that for what it’s worth, but Garrett is the only finalist to visit St. Louis. And he did have his wife with him. Devaney also said that he’d already made his recommendation to owner Chip Rosenbloom on who he wanted to hire as the next Rams head coach.

Devaney said he hoped to reach a decision by Monday on the next Rams head coach.

Garrett and Devaney have a lot in common. They’re both from New Jersey. They’re both big Bruce Springsteen fans, and they’re both represented by the same agent, David Dunn.

Well, if Garrett's wife is with him, it's definitely a done deal.

Well, I know those are things I'd be looking for in my next head coach.

Devaney earlier touted the fact that RJ is a "Jersey guy" like himself.

Like I asked the other day, this sounds like Parcells. What the hell is the big deal about being from Jersey?

Not to mention the fact it says Devaney has already made his recommendation.

Things certainly seem to add up to Garrett getting the job there.

not to be a jerk but what is the difference between that and all the people who run around all excited because wade phillips is from texas? Why would that matter? Its no different.

Wade phillips being from texas has really helped the dallas cowboys.

Who are all these people excited that Wade is from Texas? All but about three of us hate Wade.

I just can't imagine Jerry giving as a reason for interviewing Wade that "he's a Texas guy". It might be a coincidence that he mentions, but not a primary reason for liking him.

So what's the deal with "Jersey guys"? I still don't get it.

Didnt jerry talk for like 5 minutes about wade being a texas guy and having coached at all levels in texas and really understanding texas whatever that means at wades initial pc?

and If I had to guess on the jersey thing, I am imagining he infers jersey to mean work ethic and of a similar thought process on how things go down. Parcells gave the ok to garrett before he left here, its one of the reasons jerry was so high on him.

This is a horrible day. We are keeping coach trust, loyalty and common purpose and owens getting rid of more good people.

When fassel is hired I am going to puke. Especially when phillips goes on and on about him.

After the fact... He didn't tell the press that was one reason he liked him when he was in for an interview. Jerry hired Dave Campo and Bill Parcells, for crying out loud. I don't think he cares where they're from.

Um... So Jersey Guys have better work ethics than other people? And what is this similar thought process on how things go down? See, this is what I don't get.

And yep, Parcells mentioned the Jersey guy thing about Garrett as well. I still don't get it.

But I don't think Parcells' endorsement is the reason Jerry is high on Garrett. He's loved him since he played here.

no I am not saying its a better work ethic. I am saying its the work ethic and thought process that devaney relates to so he will be easy to work with.

its the same thought process that I had to hear from everyone down here about how parcells didnt understand the area and how wade is a texan and texans have the same inflated opinion of texans that jersey guys do of jersey guys.

Not necessarily true. His wife was with him last year when he went to Baltimore. However despite that I still think hes gone.
