Per ESPN:

Bobby Williams meets with Jason Garrett
January, 11, 2011 Jan By Todd Archer

IRVING, Texas -- Could Bobby Williams be the man to replace Ray Sherman as the Cowboys’ wide receivers coach?

Williams met with coach Jason Garrett on Tuesday at Valley Ranch and if he joins the staff it would be a reunion for the two. Williams was the running backs coach in Miami from 2005-06 when Garrett was the quarterbacks coach under Nick Saban.

Williams has spent the last three years as the tight ends coach/special teams coordinator at Alabama under Saban. Williams’ ability to coach many positions would give Garrett some flexibility should his brother John, the tight ends coach, leave to become Miami’s offensive coordinator.

man we don't hear about some guys until coack Garrett has already met with them. We are going on interviewing spree's. Garrett seems to be determined to find staff members that will join in on his vision of The Cowboy Way:D

Seems like so far, Garrett is interested in guys with some Parcells links (Saban is a 2nd generation BP coaching tree guy).

There seems to be more of a direct connection between Garrett and these coaches. Garrett worked with Williams in Miami and he worked with Bowels in Dallas.

Atleast Garrett knows that the current staff freaking sucks, so whoever he hires is going to be an upgrade at almost any position.

I would be more worried if Garrett kept the status quo.

I like the idea Garrett is getting his own guys.

who exactly has he gotten at this point? he has very little experience outside Dallas, so if he just relies on guys who knows, it is going to be a pretty limited group he is after

Does he?

We've made one move so far..

We've interviewed for 2 positions. That's it.

We've also denied a team the ability to speak to one of our coaches.

Doesn't seem like Garrett thinks the current staff "sucks" by what's been going down so far..

I don't know here...as he seems to be targeting young and aggressive talent in the coaching ranks. But he was around when this group of coaches was initially evaluated as well as probably has as intense a personal opinion on their very strengths and how they fit in with his directions. I think he knows, as does Jerry, that Super Bowls are usually earned by coaches and team coming together and rising to new standards as well.

I'm not disappointed in the refusal of Herring to interview elsewhere. I think that much can be learned underneath Houck as well. His effort did bring along Free to a strong contributor. If he can add yet one other from the list of 'developers' already on the team. Well, the Cowboys may well be off and running with another veteran and high draft choice.

Jason Garrett has had a busy first part of this week, already interviewing Vic Fangio and Dan Campbell for potential jobs.

Later in the day Tuesday, Garrett met with Bobby Williams, the current tight ends/special teams coach at Alabama. Williams coached running backs with the Dolphins when Garrett served as quarterbacks coach in 2005-06.

A former head coach at Michigan State from 2000-02, Williams has been wide receiver coach for the Detroit Lions in 2003 and a similar position at LSU in 2004 before spending two seasons with the Dolphins from 2005-06. Williams has spent the last three years at Alabama.

See the connection? Of course, it’s Nick Saban....

So, just how good have the TEs and STs been at ALA anyway?

You judging Dat Nguyen on how the linebackers did in the Cotton Bowl?

Why not, he was their position coach right? Williams has had a little bit longer time to work with his units than Dat in any case. You judge a person's ability by their body of work. If you have a better way, let me know.

That's like saying all one needs for a good cut of meat is a lot of salt...when there are a lot of things that are reflected in a juicy meat. Not the least of which is allowing it to rest after cooking before one cuts into it...and releases all of the juices before eating it. Then there is the recent 11 victory season by Dallas that didn't result in a playoff run. Now, how could a little stat be so far off?

Trust me, at least half of this staff is going to be new next year. Garrett is just getting started, he is taking his time and making sure to get the right guys.

It is not going to happen overnight, but it will happen.

Everyone has their own opinion, you're obviously entitled to yours.

Im just stating that from what's gone down so far, it isn't obvious as you said that Garrett thinks the staff from last year completely sucked.
