You would think that one of the big talking points would be that Garrett is only 44.

Believe it or not I think we'll see Garrett getting in some faces.

He won't be the headcoach next year..

Cowher, Gruden, Tomlin, Shanahan, Madden, and Shula (Don) were all under age 35 when they got their first NFL head coaching gig.

You do not know anything

I would prefer only Cowher ..... and it is close.

Suddenly Jason's a tough guy? Amusing.

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of ex-NFL QBs who became head coaches? I can think of four off the top of my head: Zorn, Spurrier, Starr, and Van Brocklin--losers all.

I don't understand why people do not want to give this guy a chance. Lets see what he can do. I think he will at least bring some accountability and toughness to this team. Something they have not had in over 3 years. Is he the second comming of Lombardi, I do not think so, but lets see what he does. All I know is that the team quit under Phillips and 95% of the players could all use a kick in the a**, so lets see how this guy does. I will be happy if they compete and not get blown out 45-7 or lose to teams like the Jags.

I think you're wrong. Jerry loves the guy and with CBA issues, I think Jerry keeps him as head coach.

I laugh at you all who say Garrett wont be coach next year. You have no clue what you are talking about. Garrett will be successful and if we go to a retread coach that took 15 years to win a superbowl I will be pissed.

Because their position is immediately indicative of their performance as a head coach?

I think Zorn got a raw deal. No offensive line, Dan Snyder trading away picks all the time for washed up players and failing to address an anemic offensive roster.

Snyder traded away Champ Bailey for Clinton Portis. Who does that?

Why didn't he "get in faces" before as an OC? Has anyone seen that? All I've seen is him looking at his playsheet or, after drives, sitting on the bench with his legs crossed talking to Romo.

And before anyone says he didn't want to step on toes or any of that nonsense... The head coach sure never cared about Joe D screaming at people.

I'd have to see the full list and their W-L records before coming to any sort of conclusion. The early returns do not look promising.

Maybe so, but that doesn't explain why no one thought to elevate him to that lofty position before the Skins did.

Jammmmmmm.

The daywalker really has commanded the respect of his offense. It reflects on the field as well. Its a shame such a disciplined, efficient, and high scoring group has been held back by such a pitiful defense.

I don't have a comprehensive list, but I thought of a couple of others. Gary Kubiak was the first that came to mind, and he has done a pretty good job of turning the Texans into a contender. Tom Flores was also successful, but he inherited a pretty good team from Madden I think. I think a few of the old timers like Baugh and Graham coached briefly, but I'm not sure how they did.

Look Lets say everyone here on this message board was in agreement with your point of view 100% on board with giving JG a legit shot. We are all here because we are truly FANATICS!!! The average fan does not even know this message board exist much less care to dive into the details we do here on a daily basis. What they care about is WINS and good salsa and a great burger and some cold beer, got it. They want to have a good time and feel good about the dollars they spend on a winner. They really could care less about the x' and o's of the game who might be the next draft selection or any of the stuff we here on CZ banter on and on about. It's all about the gate and the dollars that the majority of those willing to spend to get through the gate. If the Cowboys dont win its fairly simple those fans aren't going to the games, they aren't paying for the parking, and they aren't buying concessions, jerseys or programs. The sooner we on this board come to the realization that this is a business the better understanding we can have in our discussions. Sad but true we are just a small fraction of Fanatics. Thats the way sports in Dallas go.

A lot of old school coaches were former players. Tom Landry and Don Shula.

You got great coordinators like Dick LeBeau. But as the trend goes further and further towards "Teh hotz new youngz fieriez coordinatorz !!!111ONEES11", it would become harder and harder for former players to become coaches since they're joining the profession later in life.
