JG came to Dallas in 1993 the first of Jimmy's super bowls and was here for 8 years. He saw what a championship team looked like and how Jimmy ran the Cowboys. He also saw the leaders on this team deal with the Switzer years. These two coaches couldn't give him a better model of the right way to do things vs the wrong way.

I'm glad to know that he is one of the winners of the past (yes I know he was the backup on those teams) and remembers what it meant to be the Dallas Cowboys when we were the dominant football team in the league.

Please bring the greatness back to the star Jason!

I certainly like the idea of a former Cowboy being in charge of the team, and I hope he does well, but the reality is that being a player on those teams does not give him much of a leg up as a coach. Sure he saw some things and learned some lessons that can help, but ultimately you also have to know Dave Campo saw and learned the same things, so it still comes down to the person being able to use what he has learned and his own personal sense of how to coach and make it work.

Maybe we come to a "full circle" of sorts.

I like it!

Can we please stop it with the "he was here when Jimmy was" stuff? Garrett was with Jimmy Johnson for one year. He had more exposure to Switzer and Gailey than he did Jimmy Johnson.

How did being on a Super Bowl team work out for Mike Singletary? Jack Del Rio played for Jimmy Johnson for three years, is he a great coach? Norv Turner, Dave Wannstedt and Butch Davis coached under Jimmy Johnson for longer than Garrett was exposed to him, are they great head coaches at the pro level?

Garrett's ability to succeed or fail with the Cowboys will have to do with whether he can get the players to respond or not. It won't have anything to do with one year of exposure to Jimmy Johnson.

Yep...if all it took was a "link" to Jimmy, then we wouldn't have had to endure 3 straight years of 5-11...except that the personnel that Campo had to work with was pitiful. Would we also be seeing the decline in our secondary that we have since Campo came back?

I think Jack Del Rio is a pretty good coach with a low rent team. He isn't exactly given cowboys sized $$'s to sign free agents and assistants. When he has had talent on that team, they have played hard.

Please never ever again put Garret and Johnson's name in the same sentence until he wins a superbowl.

Hypocrite.:laugh2:

And on top of all of that, Jimmy's first Super Bowl was in 1992, not '93.

Maybe Garrett can be a moderately effective HC this week or next. That would be a good start, all this pedigree stuff is crazy. Either he has it or he doesn't.

If Garrett has 3/4 of the linkage Jimmy had the Cowboys will be in good shape......until Jerry gets jealous!

I like Jack Del Rio too, his team just worked us over pretty good. His teams seem to play hard regardless of the talent but one thing in this league holds true for all coaches, you have to get over the hump and produce tangible results. Those results being the SB and to that end Jack is left wanting.
