Garrett Likely Staying

No info to pass along here, just me reading the tea leaves and speculating.

I couldn't be happier. He'll shut the naysayers up in 2009 when he has a healthy Offense and a full off season to work with some of the new weapons.

Breakdown of why I believe he is staying.

With Shanahan wanting to take 2009 off I don't think Jerry is in any kind of hurry to change anything else on the coaching staff. That includes Wade, which I think was a possibility if Garrett left. Wade is still going to need a LB Coach when Herring officially accepts the Oklahoma State DC job.

Candidates? I think Jim Bates might be.

The Jets look like they are going to go Rex Ryan. They didn't interview Garrett anyway, so it wasn't a likely destination. They may still go Steve Spanuolo, but like Garrett, he is very highly paid and I think that makes him harder to hire. Both will want pay rasies from their current salaries.

The Rams are leaning towards Leslie Frazier. Spagnuolo may also be a candidate. I think that is a really good hire BTW. This is the last place Garrett could land and at this point I think it is highly unlikely he will.

The Colts, Seahawks, Lions, Browns, 49ers, and Broncos all have their guy in place.

That leaves the Raiders and the Chiefs if Pioli changes his mind. What can you say about the Raiders? What a friggin' mess. Last year when Al Davis wanted Lane Kiffin to resign he was going to make Charlie Joiner his Head Coach. He hired Joiner anyway and put him on Kiffin's staff. Now he has fired Joiner and isn't retianing Cable and is losing his entire coaching staff.

No way Garrett would take that job. Their only hope is to get a retread guy from the good old boy network like Jim Fassel and try again.

Commitment to Excellence? Naw. Commitment to Excrement. That is the saddest franchise in the NFL at this point and at one time they were one of the flagships. Sad really. Davis needs to retire. One of the great football minds ever, but it is gone now.

Understand what you are saying about wanting Garrett, my only reservations is he shouldn't NEED everyone healthy in order to succeed as a coordinator. More is done with less around the league.

Also, as a TO hater (for the star incident) I think what you've seen is his strong desire to win, which spills out sometimes as negativity and locker room madness. When all it is, the guy works way too hard in the off-season training to go down like that. That being said, I would prefer he stays, even with the fact that I strongly dislike the guy! He DOES have some amazing talent still and can truly help the team succeed.

And I thought Herring came out and said he wasn't going anywhere and hadn't interviewed? Was that not right?

Garrett won't be able to count on a "healthy offense" the entire year. Somebody will go down, probably more than one guy. It's the nature of the game. Hey, maybe it will be TO? :lmao2:

way to come through with the breaking news hos:laugh2:
1st line I said it was me speculating, not reporting anything. The very 1st line.

I'm fine if he stays.

One thing that I would like to see though....with T.O. taking two defenders, Garrett SHOULD be able to exploit that. I don't think we saw enough of that this year.

Could part of that be due to injuries? Possibly.

Also, use Felix Jones alot more than he did while he was healthy. That Washington game was ridiculous.....argh!

He denied he had accepted the job or had been interviewed. Last I heard he is still going to take it.

Which is why I worry. IT is easy to have the weapons all healthy and call up plays, but what I didn't see was the adjustment being made when people started falling off (and with RW coming in). That is all I am trying to say.

I am in no means implying I want him to leave, just that I have reservations about him next year WHEN (not IF) injuries happen.

it'll be same old same old if both Garrett and T.O. too much opportunity for there to be too much drama. One of 'ems gotta go. or hire a no nonsense WR coach.

One of them does not HAVE to go....

It is the coaches job to put the players in the best position to succeed....it is the players job to execute.

If JG can put them into the best position to succeed, all of this "drama" from this year will be a forgotten mess.

thats right once the coaches make the players happy everything will be peachy.........

how about the players just shut up and do their jobs and let the coaches do theirs

i'm messing with you man. chill out. I meant that as in the only job left for him is the Rams and everybody is reporting that 2 other coaches are more likely to get that job over tecmo. nobody was gonna hire tecmo after underachieving big time this season. my point was most people knew he would be back but hoped he wouldn't.

The offense will be healthy in 2009? Sweet.

I'll read some tea leaves as well. The OL is all 30+. Flozell is what? 34? TO is 35. Witten can't possibly continue to take the beating he has and last. Roy Williams has always seemed to be nursing some minor injury.

The older a team gets, the more likely it is to sustain injuries.

2008 was not a bad year for injuries, but rather a pretty average one. Week 17 we had every starter out there buy one. 2009 may very well be worse than 2008 was.

Where did I say that it was the coaches job to make the players happy? Although it goes alot easier for the coaches, players and the FANS when everybody IS in a utopia....

I agree that the players SHOULD shut up and do their job....

Where the heck do you get that I was saying different?

Unless Garrett is switching to the west coast.8-8 a comin.Maybe 7-9.Garrett wont use TO, Romo, nor Felix right.By mid season they will be hating each other again.

If the Jets get Rex Ryan how do you think their defense will do seeing how well the Ravens have done in years past and this year?

because to me this implies that the coaches are to blame for the players complaints and if the coaches did what the players or some fans think they should be doing then all the drama would stop......and i dont think the coaches should be coaching to appease them or us...the coaches have a philosophy and for it to work the players need to get on board
