Garrett/Linehan's offense exposed Romo to injury

Have you ever wondered why Tom Brady never gets hurt? Because he never gets hit. The ball is out of his hands too quickly. Because of the system NE runs. Three step drops. Quick passes. Crossing routes. Rub routes. TE seam routes. Swing passes to pass catching backs.

Versus the Garrett/Linehan system. Deep drops. Long-developing deep routes by WRs. Virtually no rub routes. Few three step drops. Even with the best OL in the league, percentages are that your QB is going to get hit more. And especially with a QB like Romo who likes to extend plays, he has been exposed by this system and his style of play to injury.

I have always disliked the Garrett offense. This is another reason why.

Funny how this offense was pretty cool when we were winning Super Bowls with a similar one.

when did we ever win super bowls with a jason garrett offense? it is not the same as norv turner's offense, which was timing-based and got the ball out of aikman's hand on time.

If Garrett/ Linehan adopted the offensive line "Landry Shift" Romo would have never gotten injured

When will we learn?

You're partially right my friend. There are often times when I see all the receivers 30/40 yards downfield with NO outlet to help out. You should always have an outlet, especially with an aging QB in the preason. I can't tell you how many times I've watched replays of Romo getting sacked and the WRs are still in their routes sprinting 40 yards downfield . I watch a ton of football and never seen this happen so much on any other team.

You have to have a short outlet for these aging QB's. The pats do it for Brady and the Broncos did it for Peyton . Romo can still get it done if he stands in that pocket and releases quickly. But if you're asking him to take a 5-7 step drop scramble around and by time, and wait for a WR 40 yards downfield to get open in the preseason then you're asking for it.

Just watch the Commanders game from 2014 when Romo broke his back on that Monday night game. The offense failed to adjust to the Commanders blitzing. Romo was hit so many times and on the replays all the receivers were running vertical routes. It was mind boggling that they could not adjust to this.

It's in the same family.

Thing is, if Dak holds it together, Garrett likely serves out the whole term of his contract unless there is a complete failure.

Garrett's playbook has always needed modification in my opinion. Sadly, they refuse to do it most of the time.

If Romo had learned how to slide better he doesn't flop on his butt and break his back.

Yes. The real problem now is ole Tony boy is getting old and fragile. That hit was not dirty or even very nasty. Its more on Tony. His game has caught up to him.

heck, Jones should never have hired Garrett in the first place. The NFL shouldnt be a place where the HC learns on the run.

Any HC will tell you that they are always learning. The game changes and either they adapt to it or are forced out.

Romo was hurt because as the play broke down he choose to run instead of throwing the ball away. On just about every play there is a short, intermediate and long rout within the passing offense. Much of Romo injury has come from him extending plays but there is a lot of 3 step drops and shorter routs which is why Witten has made a living in the NFL for 14 years. I also feel the run game is critical in this offense and when Dallas has gotten the running game going and producing consistently it allows the offense to say in down and distance situations they can have a lot of success with

Exactly. All of Garretts lame plays take to long to develop and he really gets exposed in the big games when the defenses step it up a notch or two.

Haley I hate to admit you are right. You know when Landry dumbed down his offense we took off. Maybe JG needs to do the same thing, though there is no comparison being made with Mr. Landry.

Hey Strolly. You know there is such a thing as being too smart for your own good. Garrett is like that to me. Keep things simple. That was Rob Ryans disease too and why he isnt successful.
