It seems that Coale just didn't have the chance to prove himself. Maybe while on the practice squad he will be able to get healthy and show what he can do.

"We liked Danny Coale a lot, that's why we drafted him," coach Jason Garrett said Saturday morning. "Unfortunately with a couple of our younger players we didn't get a chance to see him very much. He had a foot injury in the spring, I think he had only one OTA practice and then all through training camp he was dealing with a foot or a (hamstring) or whatever it was. He didn't play that much. He's been playing the last couple of weeks so it was harder for him to make his case."

I know one thing: I watched Coale play a lot at Virginia Tech, and Andre Holmes better not miss too many practices with that knee injury he's nursing. Now that Coale is healthy, the coaching staff will start seeing what they were expecting to see from him in practice, and if Holmes isn't improving as well, Coale will take his roster spot.

BTW, the Cowboys can always give Coale more money to stay on the practice squad here if someone wants to claim him.

Can they?

I thought if the Cowboys wanted to retain a player that was being claimed off their PS....they have to put him on the 53.

I dont think you can just outbid other teams for PS players.

Could be wrong...

Unless of course...the PS player being claimed wants to stay where he is...I suppose that could happen.

The minimum weekly salary for practice squad players in 2012 is $5,700, an increase of $500 over the 2008-2010 rate. There is no limit to how much a team can pay a practice squad player. Several teams have enticed players with offers of increased pay, usually a few thousand dollars extra, to join or remain on their practice squad.

If Coale wants to stay here that it is. He can join another's team 53 if he feels like he has a better opportunity there.

I guess potential was good enough to keep Johnson, but those rules don't apply Coale.

Harder to find a good safety than a good WR.

Fixed it for you.

So are you stating that there are more good safetys in the NFL than WRs? Otherwise, your fix broke the post. Two players of equal potential, but some positions are harder to place than others.

Yes and know the issue is what do they see as their top end potential. What if they view Coale as a guy with a ceiling on par with Crayton and they have Johnson ceiling as higher they are going to keep Johnson.

Just because you think his cellign is hire does not mean the coaches do right or wrong that is the way it goes.

With all the *****ing and moaning funny how no one claimed him of the waiver wire and he is on the practice squad.

Now it is on Coale to prove them wrong that is what Crayton did his rookie year (well he should have never been on the PS either that year).

Holmes is coming up lame Coale is getting healthy all he has to do is go into practice and prove to the coaches they screwed up.

I'm seriously on board with this thinking... even more so having just read your post saying you watched DC play a lot while at VT. I've been a big BSU Broncos fan for a very long time (lived in Boise) so I only really saw Danny Coale play on a handful of occasions while in college... whenever BSU played against VT while Danny was a starter for them.

Really, really like his skillset, football smarts, study habits, work ethic and upside, from everything I've read and seen of him so far. So glad we were able to sign him to the PS after waiving him. :D

The funny thing is that he's actually better than his stats, in many ways. The QBs throwing him the football for the last couple of years leave a lot to be desired when it comes to accuracy, and there have been a lot of the kinds of diving, one-handed catches he had against Miami. It didn't surprise me at all that he came up with that catch.

No I meant it's ahrder to find guys like Johnson than Coale.

I completely agree with you. He is better than his stats and Tech is a heavy running offensive team also. I will admit that I was wrong if he did make it to our practice squad. I am surprised about that. I guess teams stick with what they have and know since they did not get to see much preseason work from him.

OK. I misread your post. It's after 1 and I still haven't had my coffee yet.

This is a boneheaded move by the Cowboys.... Jerry must be behind this. Even Garrett isn't this stupid.

Every team needs a 6'4" WR that plays like he is 5'10". I figured Holmes would make the yram considering that he is one of Jerry's kids.

Thanks for the clarification.....I didnt think PS players could be kept if another team put in a claim. I thought the only solution was to put him on your 53 man roster.

If another team claims him, they are putting him on their 53 man roster, not practice squad. That's unlikely to happen considering how much time he missed.
