Again, he's won ONE PLAYOFF GAME in 6 years. So no, he's not exactly a "winning" coach as I would define it. He needs to start delivering in the postseason starting now. Coaches are defined in the playoffs, not what they do in the regular season.

Belicheck, McCarthy, Carroll, Payton, Tomlin are SB winning coaches who have performed in the playoffs. Reid is a better coach. Then you have guys like O'Brien, Rivera, Arians who might be better.
Again he won 13 games in 2014/12 games in 16. Of course he has an incredible staff but all winning teams do.
Play off wins are coming. It really is a process

And single digits wins in 2015.

Process. 6 years in. LOL. When is the process over? Guys have turned around teams much faster than this.

It doesn't matter what you think is coming, judging coaches now is largely based off what they have done. And right now, what Garrett has accomplished doesn't make him a Top 10 coach most likely. Again, 6 years in and one freaking playoff win. There's little doubt if that was the resume of one of our rivals, you wouldn't be so bullish.

To me 17 is quite high for him. He is terrible, one of the worst I've seen at managing his players and the flow of the game to the point it has cost us a lot of losses to include at least one playoff game. I think he's had more than a fair share of talent and still little to show for it. The fact he couldn't win a game when Romo went down two seasons ago I thought was telling while those same QBs went elsewhere and were passable for a few games. Frankly, there is nothing I can point to and say Garrett has done a good job with. I think the games we have won almost anyone coaching would have won and in a lot of cases we won despite of Garrett. Outside of the gutter coaches like Kelly, I can't think of very many coaches I'd rank Garrett ahead of. IMO he might be better than Campo, maybe although Campo never got this long at the helm and he never had any talent to work with.

Have we ever made the playoffs in back to back years with Garrett?

One.

Where would the author rank him? 17 might be a bit low but he's not Top Ten either.
And that was on a very questionable non PI call. Only made the playoffs twice in six and a half years.

This isn't a consensus ranking, this is 'what Pete Prisco thinks.' It's low, and it's still quite a bit higher than most of his detractors around here.

Romo and now Dak win despite garret. The only real reason for the 2 successful season in the past 3 years is ripping the playbook out of Jason's hands and sticking to the running game....it's a process

It's funny, if you're not ranked number one, you feel slighted. There's no in between.

Oh Yes there is...Jason Garrett has been .500 coach his entire career. About the middle of the pack as you can get...right up there with Jeff Fisher...oh wait..Fisher made it to a Superbowl...never mind My Bad...what was I thinking...1 playoff and done is the best Garret can do.
