Garrett Reid was on heroin at time of accident
February 8, 2007

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. (AP) -- The 23-year-old son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid tested positive for heroin after he caused a traffic accident last week that left another motorist injured, police said Thursday.
Garrett Reid, the oldest son of the Eagles coach, told authorities he used heroin on Jan. 30 before he ran a red light in suburban Philadelphia, striking a car driven by a 55-year-old woman, police said. A blood test confirmed the presence of heroin, said Plymouth Township Deputy Police Chief Joseph Lawrence. No charges have yet been filed, but Lawrence said Reid likely will be charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Reid's attorney, William Winning, was not immediately available for comment Thursday morning. On Tuesday, one of Andy Reid's other sons was arraigned on drug and weapons charges stemming from an alleged road rage incident the same day as Garrett Reid's accident. Authorities said Britt Reid pointed a handgun at another driver following a dispute. He faces a felony charge of carrying a firearm without a license as well as misdemeanor charges of lying to authorities, simple assault, making terroristic threats and possession of a controlled substance.

Wow, I didn't know all of the details surrounding this incident. It looks like the Reid family is about to enter a dark time. My wording is deliberate. Criminal legal problems always engulf an entire family. Even though Andy had nothing to do with these acts, he is still going to be pulled into the "process."

Sad news for the Reid family for sure.

However maybe it was a lucky situation in that at least it is out there and they can try and do something about it, whether that be rehab, jail time or both.

Just remember as bad as it is, I would imagine that Tony Dungy would take this rather than the loss of his son.

Best wishes to the Reid Family.
