What do Davis, Barber, and RW11 have in common? They all got the big contract and proceeded to regress on the field. That wears off on young players and kills a team expecting to be a contender after handing out large contracts to supposedly talented players. Getting those underacheivers out of the lockeroom will go a long way to correcting the dysfunction that has been plaguing this team.

Barber should not be on that list. He has always worked and played hard but his body took too much of a beating. He was not a problem as far as I know in the locker room.

mmmm, not sure I totally agree with your assessment, particularly on Davis and Barber, but I think it shows an awareness that even with all these 'superstars', the Cowboys managed 6 wins last year, and probably only deserved 5 of 'em. It shows that management is not treating this team like a team on the verge of a Super Bowl, but a team that needs to get younger and hungrier.

Well, he did start to act out last year by showing up not in dress code but I'm talking more about players who got their money and then regressed. That definately describes Barber, for whatever reason. I strongly believe underacheiving veterans making big money negatively affects a lockeroom. Guys like that need to go!

I'm not sure Bigg was a bad guy, just kind of lethargic and stupid. He was benched because he kept getting beat on the same play over and over and over again. The guy was 32 years old and had been in the league 10 years and couldn't make adjustments. Not a rocket scientist. Combine that with Gurode, who has been in the league about the same amount of time and is probably one of the few centers in the league who can't make the calls at the line, and you've got a regular Dweedle Dumb/Dweedle Dee combo in the interior.

I don't think Barber is a bad guy either ... just kind of stubborn/overly proud veteran who's production doesn't match his salary.

Barber showed up in the wrong pants to travel to NY for the Giants game. Underachieving is different than still working hard and playing hard but not getting the results. Barber took a beating and he paid for it. Keep in mind that no one was very productive behind our O-Line recently.

Bingo

I believe 'Garrett' didn't have a say in the matter. This is what had to be done to get under the cap.

The fact that it helps the locker room is just a bonus.

Their current performances do not justify their high contracts.

And that's it. It isn't about personalities. It isn't about psychology.

These are business decisions. Pure and simple. No need to turn it into a psychodrama.

We have a winner!!!

Davis didn't regress after signing his big contract. He signed before 2007 and had a very good first year in Dallas. It was later that he regressed.

Barber is not an underachiever. He just happened to run into injury problems after signing his contract. The majority of people would have been fuming had Dallas not signed Barber after the 2007 season and lost him to another team. It is unfortunate he hasn't live up to the contract, but he is not an underachiever.

Jason's fanatical devotees are desperate to push these cuts into his "win" column, when in fact they would have been exiled even if Wade were the coach. We just couldn't afford these players anymore.

Neither does Newman's.

But Newman will be retained, because he's not a lethargic doofus with no attention to detail. If Roy and Bigg were workaholic over-achievers and great leaders in the lockerroom, they would have been retained. Particularly Roy.

This. He wont be out there long and if it's a team with any resemblance of an O line he'll be back full force. He was just to high priced for the Cowboy situation.

Barber didn't regress. He broke down. Big difference.

Newman is retained b/c the front seven killed our DBs last year with their weak pressure

So say you not!

I disagree.

If the Cowboys could get similar CB play from a lower cost player, Newman would be gone too.

It really is about business.
