It's a living...
Although having said that- he'll probably never walk the same again.

Football goes beyond the field...

Tight timeline granted but the fact that Jerry could not pick up the phone and let Garrett know before before his reveal on his radio show and Garrett's PC is a little peculiar.

Ah, PC was the day prior. But then how could Garrett be surprised by the news if the surgery had not even been decided yet?

Maybe JG was surprised about how serious his injury was until the results were revealed by the MRI? Prior to that he was optimistic about his return.

Garrett & JJones communication skills equal me & my dog playing fetch..sheesh!
Just turn in your 2 week notice already JG.

Enough with the agenda, read the link

Garrett said. "Last week it just didn't feel great to him. He felt like there was something wrong. He got the MRI late Monday afternoon and we got the word Monday night. This is the best thing for him going forward. We're fully confident it's going to be handled the right way and he will be back and there is a lot more football left in him."

Garrett knew Monday night after the MRI results came in.

Gets old hearing this crud where people make up things without reading the whole situation then pass it off as truth. A month from now someone will be spewing how you remember when Jones did not even tell Garrett about the MRI

Misleading article title aside, am I the only one who isn't worried about Spence not suiting up this season? Selvie has more than held his own thus far...my only concern is depth, not the d-line's performance at this point. Hopefully Marinelli can keep those boys ballin'!!!

There is no way Spencer would have played had he anticipated additional surgery. Sounds like he should have had an MRI prior to playing rather than risking additional injury. Given his per-existing condition, The surgeons should have recognized the actual level of damage back in July and proceeded appropriately even if it was season-ending.

It also sounds like the minor incident with his "troublesome knee" in conditioning drills / tests was far more significant than the team let on. I'm also not sure if he was adequately evaluated in the Spring when he signed his tender, but it's clear that more vigorous medical analysis conducted at some point far prior to Monday afternoon would have helped everybody. Something wasn't done properly and I think that falls squarely on the shoulders' of the medical staff.

It will be interesting to hear from Anthony at some point, what a **.

I'm a bit confused as to whether the bone on bone was chronic/degenerative or from the hyperextension in minicamp.

That is a very good question and one I have wondered about.

Where's Eskimo?

I thought bone on bone meant that the cartilage had just been worn away or whatever.....wasn't there. I wasn't sure if this kind of thing could actually happen from an acute injury because you'd have to lose the cartilage. Like I said, I just don't know but I have wondered the same thing.

This is what Mike Fisher reported back in July... Lots of speculation, but... *shrug*

OXNARD, CA (CBSDFW.COM/105.3 THE FAN) – Anthony Spencer’s “mild’’ knee injury has been diagnosed as a “bone bruise,’’ and the Pro Bowl defensive end has sat out the first two days of Dallas Cowboys training camp. If it seems like the Cowboys are being unusually cautious here, they are – and one of the reasons should be named “Kevin Ware.’’

A medical source with knowledge of Spencer’s situation (but not affiliated with the Cowboys) tells 105.3 The Fan that the term “bone bruise’’ is a misnomer; it actually means a fracturing of the inner layer of bone. Among the issues: such an ailment weakens the outer layer of the bone, the hardest part, possibly making a serious fracture more likely down the line if it isn’t managed properly.

Says our source: “Ware’s knee buckled and there was no shock absorption from his knee. That transmits 1,000 pounds of pressure somewhere else – and that amount of pressure can break a bone.’’
That is the concern with Spencer, which is why there is talk that he’ll start undergoing regular MRI examinations.
