When Dallas made Jason Garrett one of the highest (if not the highest) paid coordinators this offseason, you got to believe it was for games like the one we will play this weekend. Philly (and the Giants) defense really put the brakes on our high flying offense the last time we faced them. The 2nd time through the division and late in the season there is enough game film for a decent defensive coordinator to slow a team down. But the coordinators in Philly and New York come from the same defensive tree and they are more than just decent.....which is why we struggled. I have a strong feeling Garret knew exactly why his team struggled and he set out to correct that this offseason. I think that is why you saw him adamant/excited about adding Felix and Bennett. Sure, a speedy WR opposite TO would be great, but I think Garret knows what he wants to do to compensate for what we do not have....and accentuate what we do have. And it's not just personnel, it is play calling.

It starts with the running game...no matter how good a defense you face, a solid, bruising, consistent running game for 4 quarters will make the life of every o-coordinator, QB and WR easier. To have that, the guys up front have to do their job. I am sure they will be up to the task.

Then once the defense has to sell out to stop the run, you have the weapons to take advantage of that. The primary weapon against a blitzing attacking defense is the QB. He has to have poise, toughness to hang in the pocket, trust his protection, identify where the blitz is coming from and be decisive with his decision making. In Romo we have that.

Lastly we will need patience. Patience to take what the defense gives you. Patience to keep running clearing routes so others will prosper. Patience to keep taking the small chunks when the big chunks are not available. This patience will need to be shown by Garrett, Romo and Owens.

A message needs to be sent loud and clear to Philadelphia. They need to KNOW that Dallas take over of the NFC East crown was not a one time thing. We are back in charge of this division...and it is going to remain that way for the foreseeable future.

To me the key is controlling their blitzing. If we can protect Romo we'll be ok.

Barber and Jones in the back field and Jones pretty much lined up everywhere on the field should give Philly fit's.I look for us to run a more up tempo offense too, not a hurry up but maybe a faster pace..

True. Philly will live by blitz and die by the blitz. It is harder to maintain long drives but if you pick up the blitz there are big plays down field to be made. This is going to be a good challenge for our O-lineman

I believe Garrett is indeed the highest paid assistant in the NFL. He'll have the Boyz O ready to go on Monday. The O-line will dominate.

The weakest link on the o-line is Procter, and they will likely attack there. Barber needs to play in this game to help pick up the blitz. Felix may get Romo killed if doesn't help pick up the blitz.

I think our new lineman will be playing in place of proctor this weekat least thats what I read right before sundays game, that he really was picking up the playbook.

Procter did hold his own, but I still worry about the "lightest" guy on our o-line (at 310+ lbs...lol).

Personally, I'm not sold on Philly stopping a healthy dose of Barber + Jones pounding the rock. I would pound the rock early and often and dare them to blitz, keeping the drives long and shortening the game. This is a different Jones, not Julius, and he can hit a home run if Philly overpursues on their blitzes.

Good thing we've got a n00b playing left guard. :laugh2:

We lost last year because of:

1. Romo's thumb
2. OL collapse

Against the Eagles, Romo couldn't hit a brick wall. Even against the Giants, TO got behind the WRs quite a bit.

The OL collapse should not happen with HH as the coach. If Holland is ready to go, the Eagles will most likely get destroyed. With HH and Romo no hurting from the hand injury, this should be akin to Dallas' first performance against the Eagles last year.

We are not a run first team, so let's not do something we're not all about. It's okay to have a pass first offense, I believe San Fran killed in the 80s doing that, and I believe the Cheats did as well.

So we will throw the ball, and then we will mix in the run which should give us huge plays because they are so worried about the pass. So goes the Offensive line, so goes are offense.

when the only REAL threat as a WR is TO....you NEED to be a run first team. THat is what we were in the 90s...and our inabilty to run it consistently for 4 quarters last year is why we stumbled late. It is also why the Giants beat the Cowboys, Packers and Pats...all 3 of us were pass first teams...and we paid dearly for it. Run the ball....tire out the defense...instead of tiring out the OL having to pass block all day.

If we want to beat the Eagles, Wade is the one who is going to have to earn his paycheck by stopping Westbrook and McNabb.

he did pretty good last year shutting them down...we scored 6 points the last time we saw Philly...that ain't gonna get it done

I thought thats what everyone said we did in the playoff game against the Giants but instead of the Giants line getting winded, ours apparently did.

We dominated the time of possession (per http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/drivechart?gameId=280113006 ):

Why didn't your gameplan work here and why will it work now?

we need to ram it down their throats. romo should not throw more than 20 times. make them feel it for a month.

run it and all this crazy blitzing and exotic schems will not matter...we need to impose our will on teams....our will is those 5 big uglies up front

and for the record...just because we did not win the game...it does not mean the gameplan did not work....go read what the giants said after the super bowl....the cowboys by far were the toughest challenge they faced...we lost that game for reasons that have nothing to do with the stats...we dropped the football and had too many penalties...and jacques reeves
