Gary Carter passed away...

He was my favourite Expo when I lived in Montreal. He was the star of the team that was supposed to win but never did. Ultimately he was booed out of Montreal and won a World Series with the Mets after Buckner choked.

I loved Gary Carter when I was little. :(
He was my fav player next to Nolan Ryan.

I never liked Gary Carter growing up. As Artie Lange likes to say, never trust a catcher without facial hair. He also played for the Mets to make things worse.

But, harkening back I hated him because he was a great player on a team I hate and he was the consumate teammate and leader. Baseball needs a helluva lot more Gary Carter's.

It's a damn shame.

What is even more a damn shame is my wife (a NY native) though Gary Carter was far better catcher than Ivan Rodriguez.

New Yorkers seem to think anything NY is better than anything not-New York. (and Carter was only in NY for a short part of his career!!!!)

:bang2:

The part in bold I absolutely and completely agree with. I'd say all sports need a helluva lot more Gary Carter's.

RIP to one of my all time favorite non-Phils. Couldn't stand him when he killed us, but always loved the way he played the game.

Heard this on the radio yesterday and I felt old right away. I still have Gary Carter B-ball cards. He was everything a catcher should be. Great player.

Sad to hear.

If I remember right he was the one that got the big hit double? in the 8th or 9th against Bob Knepper in the '86 playoffs against Houston after Knepper should have been pulled, that game went on to 16 or so innings before the Mets won. The Mets went on to beat Boston after Bill Buckner should have been pulled. Two horrible coaching decisions that kept the Mets from losing. I hated Gary Carter but he was a heck of a player. RIP
