GB Loss Was Good For Us

I think it hammered home two things:

1) We need to run more than pass, period. No doubts about it. The offense is much more effective when we emphasize the run.

2) The defense needs to truly care about run fits and overall containment. We heard it all week, they needed to refocus on stopping the run and they did so. Pass rush is earned not given.

If the coaches and players truly learned these two lessons then we are in the best position we can be to make a serious run. If we go back to pass happy offense and splash play defense then we are vulnerable.

I also think it was a humiliating and humbling loss and I'm happy with the way we responded.

The Cowboys run defense was honestly terrible today, but it wasn't fully exposed because the Vikings were down so many points because Maher kept scoring and we kept moving the ball on the ground on offense.

Dalvin Cook taunting the cowboys bench when down 37-3 has to be the most epic "SCOREBOARD!!!" moment in sports history, though.

no it wasnt

this team knows what they are if youre a run first team and youre up 28-14 you bleed the clock out you dont chuck it 46 times

you dont have to get punched in the face to make you do right...

if im a chef and i make the best smoked brisket it shouldnt take my general manager chewing me out to make me stop boiling it then putting it in the microwave

The Cowboys will definitely get carved up on Thanksgiving like the turkeys they are. 31-17 NYG

In my lifetime Dallas ALWAYS seems to lose on Turkey Day. Automatic L almost every time which has made the holiday a sucky one for me honestly.

McCarthy was pretty much told to be hands off with the offense at first, I'm guessing. But with every loss he seems to get a little bit more influence. The play calling looked like McCarthy put together the play sheet for this week, IMO.

not man enough to give Moore credit!

I remember some saying the Denver loss last year was good for us. We bounced back big after that one beating Atlanta 40-3 only to lose to KC the next week. We’ll see what Cowboys team shows up on Thanksgiving.

Oh I think you’re operating in a world of what should be, not what is. Logical decision making hasn’t exactly been this team/coaching staff’s calling card in the recent era.

McCarthy’s philosophy last year from his own mouth was starting fast and scoring quick and allowing our D to play from ahead. This year they needed the Dak injury to force them into this run-first look. We started scoring a bunch when Dak got back and the team seemed to let the reigns slip a bit on the run pass balance in GB.

You shouldn’t need that type of loss to know who you are, but unfortunately life isn’t logical all the time. Especially with this franchise.

As much as I loved this win, and don't want to sound negative, the fact that they were playing against a QB who isn't particularly mobile helped the run defense tremendously, IMO.

I get ya, just think a complete 30-0 at half at home undressing is a bit more worrisome than an OT road loss to a HOF QB.

They seem different to me but I can see where you’re coming from.

True, but the NFL is still overwhelmingly populated by non running QB’s. Outside of Hurts and maybe Jones, there won’t be on in the playoffs.

Right, but we still have to play Hurts and Jones in the regular season.

How many times in your lifetime has Dallas had a defense this good?

To some degree I agree with that, but the talk all week was the Cowboys wanted to win that game for big Mike and a Packers loss would have pretty much stuck a fork in them. It’s not like the Cowboys like Aaron Rodgers, and this was an opportunity to really get after him so in some ways the loss was a little concerning. The Cowboys are the only team they’ve beaten in the past seven weeks. We’ll see if we still have the same intensity we saw today against the Giants on Thanksgiving. We can’t just keep flipping the switch when we want to. We have to start playing consistent football.
