IOWA
Twenty NFL teams had reps at the Iowa pro day including defensive line coaches from Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Arizona, and Cincinnati who were there to see DE Adrian Clayborn and DT Christian Ballard. Clayborn, who did not lift at the combine, posted only 17 reps in the BP. Same for Ballard, who ran well at both the pro day and combine, but managed a disappointing 16 reps in the bench press. SS Tyler Sash also had to be disappointed with his pro day as he was not able to improve on his disappointing 4.62 40 time at the combine; indeed, he may have even been a tad slower at the Iowa on-campus workout. Meanwhile, DE Karl Klug, who ran at the combine but didn't complete the other drills, posted 21 reps in the BP, aong with a 29.5" VL; Klug aso posted what would have been one of the fastest times at the combine in the 3-cone drill, but what would have been one of the slowest in the short shuttle. Underrated OG Julian Vandervelde (6-2.5, 302) posted some reasonably athletic numbers including a 40 time in the 5.10-5.15 range, along with a 30" VL and 25 BP reps. After the Hawkeyes' official pro day, former Iowa WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, who was booted off the team after he was arrested on drug charges late last year, had a private workout off campus. Little about the workout of DJK, the Hawkeyes' all-time leading receiver, though, was particualrly memorable. Koulianos-Johnson reportedly ran the 40 in a middling 4.55 range, did 21 reps in the BP, had a 34.5" VL, and posted times in both the short shuttle and 3-cone drill which would have placed him in the lower percentiles at the combine.
