New Denver head coach John Fox confirmed late last week that the Broncos will be switching from a 3-4 base defense to a 4-3 this year. With the move, the Broncos are expected to return former first round picks Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers to DE after both played OLB that the last several years in the team’s 3-4 alignment. At the same time, most draft projections have the Broncos taking Clemson’s Da’Quan Bowers, another DE with the second pick overall this coming April. However, the Broncos could be tempted to look a little harder at other players such as LSU CB Patrick Peterson with the 2nd pick with Dumervil and Ayers at the position, although Ayers, who doesn’t rush the passer all that well, is not considered to be an every-down player … There are rumblings out of Buffalo, which has the 3rd pick this year, that the Bills are looking seriously at former Auburn QB Cam Newton whose stock appears to be very much on the upswing again … Meanwhile, other players who appear to be on the rise along with Newton heading into the combine include Wisconsin DE J.J. Watt, Colorado CB Jimmy Smith, Villanova OT Ben Ijalana, Baylor OG Danny Watkins and UCLA S Rahim Moore, For the record, here is the final pre-combine GBN Big Board ranking of the top 150 prospects for the 2011 draft based on the latest intelligence … Best, and maybe also worst, draft idea of the week comes from Steve Schrader of the Detroit Free Press who wonders that with the ever-growing popularity of the draft when someone enterprising tech type is going to come up with a mock draft game.

OK, so if Peterson and Newton are off the board at 2 and 3, who does that push down for the Cowboys?

Dareus DT/DE
Nebraska CB Prince
Von Miller LB
Missouri QB
Missouri DE
USC OT
Fairley DE/DT
Cam Jordan DE
Quinn DE outside linebacker possibly

then you have the 2 wrs,

just depends what you consider impact players,
some sites do, some dont

to name a few
again, i say if Fairley, Dareus, and Peterson are gone, trade down, get an extra 2nd or 3rd, and 4th to 5th in the deal

then you possibly be able to trade back up in first round if you want to about 28th pick or so, and get Carmini OT, etc, if you go DE like Cam Jordan or J J Watt with first pick, not overly fond of J J Watt, just giiving examples

Would love to see Newton take one of those slots ahead of us.

if impact players like we really want, say Peterson, Fairley and Dareus are gone by time we draft but if Newton is still there, and Commanders-Vikings-Dolphins want him, we could get a sweet deal to trade down to get him, say a 2nd, and 4th, i would seriously think about that.

that is best case scenario imho.

pp will be gone and after that the value isn't great for us at 9 imho.

but move to say 14 and take Smith or Sherrod along the OL plus pick up something over the value chart(say there 2nd(~46) for our 4th) because a QB was in play? very nice indeed.

gabbert and newton hold the hopes of the cowboys nation :)
1 should be gone and 1 should be of serious value to teams at 9.

what would be really awesome is if we could get the Commanders to panic and give up next year's first to move up one spot! then watch them play a rookie qb most of the year.

they are that silly at times.
