Senior Bowl kicks off later today …
http://www.gbnreport.com/
One of the seminal events on the pre-draft schedule gets underway later today when the senior Bowl kicks off in Mobile. The weigh-in will be held later this morning, while both teams will have non-contact practices Monday afternoon. There will then be two days of full-contact practices Tuesday and Wednesday. The missing element of the Senior Bowl, of course, is that underclassmen, who make up a significant share of the top prospects for the upcoming draft, are not eligible to participate in the all-star games, however, just about all the top senior prospects for the 2011 draft will be in Mobile this week. Indeed, over 40 of the 6-plus seniors ranked in the top 100 of our latest listing of the top prospects for the upcoming draft, are scheduled to be in Mobile this week. Of those expected to be in Mobile this week, no player will be under more scrutiny than Washington QB Jake Locker who heads a good group of senior QBs that also includes Andy Dalton of TCU, Florida State’ Christian Ponder, athletic Colin Kaepernick of Nevada, Greg McElroy of Alabama and Iowa’s Ricky Stanzi. The most interesting position in Mobile at least from a draft perspective, though, should be the OTs. Indeed, other than USC junior Tyron Smith, all the top-rated players at the position in the 2011 draft class are expected to be at the Senior Bowl including Nate Solder of Colorado, Boston College’s Anthony Castonzo, Gabe Carimi or Wisconsin and Derek Sherrod of Mississippi State. And the OTs will be tested by a solid cadre of pass rushing DEs in Mobile such as Purdue’s Ryan Kerrigan, Miami’s Allen Bailey, Jeremy Beal of Oklahoma, and Cal’s Cameron Jordan. Stay with the GBN through the week as we will be blogging the practices during the day, while we’ll also have full post-practice reports, as well as a final report after the actual game on Saturday
