No, they do not need to go on IR. They have to have inactive players anyway, what is it 6 players?
So they have 4 guys close to returning at any time, as opposed to 6 healthy players inactive.

They know what they are doing with the roster. (most of the time)

Also they have linemen they can bring up from the practice squad if necessary.

I suspect that he could play now and they are stashing him for later.

Having depth is an awesome thing.

Load them up with PCP or something. Or at least Martin. He got paid, time to play through pain.
