Is this guy a legitimate candidate for a coaching job in the NFL? (I asked about him over in the SportsZone and nobody seemed to know)

The UT D coordinator? I think for a Defensive coach position or maybe even D coordinator yes. Head coach today. No way. In the future. Very possible. I respect him. Hes aggressive and he puts players in position to use thier strengths to the best advantage of the team. You could do a lot worse then him, but you can get better then him also. Depends on your taste. Hes run of the mill with potential for longevity. I would not mind him on the D staff.

He's actually just become the head coach for Iowa State after mailing it in on the defensive end for the last 2 weeks of the season. He is an aggressive guy and has had a ton of success, so he might find his way up to the NFL in the future, but right now he has a firm footing in the college game.

OK, I'm playing the ****** here. When I saw the name, I was thinking of the old strength and conditioning coach. What was his name?

Yea, I was talking about in the NFL. Small time college coaching is a good way to cut your teeth in coaching. He could be a hot prospect in a few years for the NFL.

Joe Juraszek has been with the team since '97, is that who you're thinking of?

What sort of a defense did he have at UT?

BTW, if you think the Big 12 is "small time college football", then you don't watch the games.

that small time college ball has won 3 National Championships since 96

OU and UT have been in the top 20 for the last 6-8 years....mostly in the top 10-15......but yet they are small time....

I guess the Pac 1 Conference is Big Time...or the Atlantic Choke Conference.....or the Big 11 (excellent counting skills)...or the Big Least...

Bash the Big 12 all you want, but it is just as Big Time as the Pac 1 or the ACC.....

I am a huge Big 12 homer....but I have to admit the top dog as far as conferences go is the SEC....from top to bottom in Football they are stacked.

Chizik had 5 seniors last season that will all be drafted and UT's defense wasn't particularly good. 3 of 4 the starting secondary will be drafted in the upcoming draft, yet Texas was routinely shredded through the air against good teams. Chizik sold out to stop the run and stayed in his base defense almost all the time. Against Texas Tech he sent blitzes over and over again in the first half. They never got to the qb and Tech had a field day. Chizik kept blitzing. I don't have much faith in his coaching ability.

So, as an Iowa State fan, I really don't have much to look forward to, do I?

He might turn out to be a great coach. I can tell you that many longhorn fans weren't upset to see him leave.

Hey now, this is the 'small time college football' I was referring too. I doubt any one would refer to coaching at UT small time. I was referring to HEAD coaching at IS as cutting his teeth in coaching and getting his name known in the NFL, which I am sure it is already known. Sorry if i confused some of you guys. :lmao2:

Soooooo, Johnny Majors and Earle Bruce were small time coaches. And if you really think that ISU (nobody refers to Iowa State as IS) is a small time program, then you need to see how many ISU grads have played or are still playing in the NFL.

Iowan and damn proud of it.

Texas passing defense was ranked 111th out of 117 teams last year. I don't think he's ready for any job bigger than HC of a 3rd tier school.

It also did not help that he and Akina clashed many times last season. The scheme Texas played last year was horrible and he failed to adjust many times.

Look at the A&M game especially, Texas destroyed A&M whenever they tried to drop back and pass or run north and south. A&M shredded the D when they ran out of the option and misdirection.

The Texas front 4 constantly rushed up field taking themselves out of the play altogether instead of staying home and stringing the runs to the outside...it was pathetic and Chizik never adjusted to it.

After Chizik left, Akina made some changes to the D for the Alamo bowl and I liked what I saw in terms of scheme and adjustments. Texas got alot more pressure on the QB off of blitzes and would have had alot more sacks if Tate was not as good as he was avoiding pressure. The Texas secondary covered better but had a horrible night in tackling...the entire D could not tackle that day.

I found it amazing that Chizik went from the hottest assistant in the land after 2 undefeated seasons only to have it all change last year.
