My bad........ I thought this was going to be about dumbing down the offense even more so Dak could keep up.
It's more so about the notion that we have tons of plays. The same plays we seen before the season are the same 6 or 7 plays we see every game

Pre-season Games:
  • No game planning on either side of the ball.
  • Very small percentage of the playbook is revealed on either side of the ball.
  • Reveals very little about what the team is or could be in the upcoming season.
  • Many players that look “great” in ps games are playing against players who will never play a meaningful down of NFL football. Can be “fools gold”.
Pre-season games are vastly overrated IMO. I recognize many fans enjoy them and I understand and respect that. I just believe what we see in PS games is not that revealing. Sometimes you can see an individual player’s potential but even that has to be weighed by who they were playing against.
Agree with some of this but I still think the preseason games have value in at least evaluating the rookies and the ascending young players.

Practice is a useful tool but evaluating in a game situation is just that much better.

Another thing that we overlook is the NEW COACHES needing game situation to hone their skills and communication as well.

If I was a coach, I'd like the old 4 game preseason rather than the new 3

On top of this, I think teams need 1 more week of practice before the first preseason game. Seems like they go from hitting in pads for just a few days then are expected to go all-out. Lot of these guys are not in good football shape at this point.

And this may turn out to be the reason we beat the Browns in week 1.

Although they are a strong team, every week 1 we see upsets because some teams are more ready than others.

On 2022 we ( with our backup QB) beat the Bengals in week 2 after they had just been to a SB. Always wondered if we were just lucky to have caught them early, lol

If Trey can operate the offense I will be excited no matter what the plays are

Well even though it is against the scrubs sometimes, a good pass is still a good pass, a good catch is still a good catch.
Same for bad ones.
I will be looking at various players, and how sharp our team is compared to the other team.

Early preseason games are about evaluating talent...looking at technique, pop, attitude and execution. You can't run anything but vanilla schemes to play as many young players as you can.

I would use all of our in season, opening day plays, this way, Cleveland will expect, and game plan, for something different :muttley:

It would make it easier on you too.
I'm not a QB, so sure, dumbing down the offense would help me tremendously. Throw in some plays like this and I will be good to go. "Pass 1 on two. Ready, break !"
