We certainly agree that Jerry is THE problem. But I disagree that the “cap is fine”.

The Jones boys need to learn how to make the cap work for them. There are multiple teams that have as big a payroll as we do that find a way to still make other moves.

We have an incompetent FO when it comes to managing the cap.
I’m not sure they are incapable of more aggressively utilizing the cap to acquire more talent. They aren’t dumb

It could be they are unwilling to take the risk because their highest priority is maximizing profits on a consistent basis. Therefore they are very conservative about managing the cap so they can ensure they pocket the most money

In my opinion…We are kidding ourselves if we think this team is “close” to being competitive again for a championship. Major changes must happen. When I see people (including our front office) say how great it is that the players didn’t “quit” on the head coach this season, I cringe. Why? Because that’s the minimum professional athletes are supposed to give. To hustle and try hard is the bare minimum. But hustle and “trying hard“ can‘t make up for a lack of talent.

Yesterday in Philly our players didn't stop trying hard - they ran into a roster that is much better constructed, with way more talent at multiple positions. That can make a team with less talent look like they quit. The eagles also have an owner (Jeffrey Lurie) who hired an outstanding football executive in Howie Roseman, who is held accountable for winning playoff games.

Here’s the cold splash of water for us fans as the 2024 season ends: The talent level on this team cannot be fixed with just a coaching or scheme change. In my opinion we must have at the very least two of three major changes happen in order to get back to being a serious contender again. Here are those changes and we need at least 2 of these 3:
  1. Jerry either has to step aside (he won’t) or at the very least bring in a talented NFL executive who can serve as an advisor to JJ and SJ about the cap and roster construction. Look I know Jerry will never surrender as long as he is breathing but he once hired Dan Reeves for a week before Reeves said “I can’t do this” and resigned. If JJ wants to win again he needs help. Hire someone to help!
  2. Hire a head coach that has the ability and authority to change and energize the team’s culture, discipline and scheme. Mike McCarthy has been here 5 seasons and has 1 wild card win to show for it. He’s not a bad HC but I don’t think he is capable of getting us to the next level.
  3. Decide on an aggressive off-season plan that includes what we need to get the cap in better shape, what we need in the draft and also what we can get in free agency that helps us NOW. I’m convinced that JJ and SJ are lazy, flat footed and completely out of their league in how to develop an effective plan to improve. They are insulated from learning what teams are doing to get better.
So can two of these three things happen? All three could happen but it must start with the 82 year old in charge deciding he’s tired of watching his team get trucked and wants to do something real about it.
number 1 ain't happening. I mean the senile thought the eagles fans were giving him a complement for making fun of him and he was stupid enough to repeat it on radio.
number 2 ain't happening. no coach is coming here to have authority. only fake authority. Jones wanted Zeke to start. therefore he started.
Number 3 ain't happening. we will dip our toes in the 4th, 5th and 6th round of FA where prices for cash layout is much cheaper.

so essentially more of the same in the next few years, until Jerry passes away. God rest his soul

You know I love ya Bob but I don’t think you’re being fair and accounting for the number of comp picks we are going to have at the end of the fifth round.

They are pretty much immediate impact starters.

That ought to close the gap quite fine.

Oh really? What would you call that curb-kicking out of Green Bay? A honeymoon? And what exactly about MM do you consider innovative and cutting edge?
I don’t disagree, but by the same means the FO can’t go leaving gaping holes in the middle of the defense that’s ripe for exploitation.

That may fly against bad teams, but the better teams are going to beat you on it when it counts.

Not one of these things will happen.

1. Jerry will not ask for help. He thinks he is the smartest person in the NFL.
2. Jerry will never give a coach any kind of legit authority.
3. Jerry has already said the focus will be on resigning our own.

Great point Hazey! Here are my comments.
  • Point 1: That is the depressing part that Jerry will likely live another 10-15 years with the best medical care money can buy and Stephen seems likely to be a chip off the old block and continue making 99% of all football decisions after Jerry "sings with the choir eternal" (ref: Monty Python's Parrot sketch).

  • Point 2: There isn't a coach alive that can overcome Jerry making 99% of most head coaching decisions. He hires head coaches who know their contract makes them Jerry's scapegoat and they have no authority while pretending to illusion sake.

  • Point 3: Lazy, flatfooted, incompetent, and completely out of touch with reality due to no accountability. If the Packers total domination in our last wild card home playoff appearance doesn't move the needle, then nothing will and that's the depressing part.
The only thing I'm encouraged about is that very few fans went to training camp to watch Jerry dressed up in his head coaching outfit and I hope this trend as well as declining Cowboy's fan attendance will continue and escalate. Public humiliation though things like these might be the only thing Jerry and fatso will listen to. Perhaps home games will become more and more like home games for opposing teams since DFW is a melting pot for jobs and fans of every team live here.

Thank you for continuing to post these great threads. As long as Jerry and fatso continue with "business as usual", there will always be a place for such criticisms. And don't let the idiots that call you a "hater" for expressing your opinions on an opinions forums as these "fans" are the very ones that continue to buy tickets, jerseys, SWAG, and Gene Jones Jeans! Let the brown bags be plentiful in AT&T stadium for those who choose to go.
The franchise is sinking into irrelevancy, coaches, players, fans and the national media has noticed it

Chiefs are the new "America's Team" and you have many other more interesting or relevant teams

Jerry is refusing to do his job
When he sees how much money the franchise is making, he thinks he’s doing his job very well. He doesn’t really know how to be a real GM, and at 82 doesn’t even care to learn. Neither does his lazy entitled son, whose major accomplishment in life is his DNA.

Thats the thing he doesnt have to do anything and he can make money so if you spend money to improve the team you are still making money. This is not an actual business where you have to balance the checkbook, its a monopoly that monopoly partners (networks) the sponsors. You dont have competition except the other teams.

That’s why I’ve said for years, being an NFL owner is almost a total zero risk business. They can just sit back and count their money no matter what.

...but it must start with the 82 year old in charge deciding he’s tired...
We all like to say that no one beats father time. At some point Jerry is going to get sick and ill. If not from his vices, then old age.

I wonder what his thought process will be when he realizes that eventuality?

Will he try something different?

Nice post, but NOTHING can turn this thing TOTALLY around with Dim as your starting QB....sorry, NOTHING. I'm actually sleeping better since Sept 8th now that I'm not expecting a ******* thing out of this organization for another 5-6 years. Thank God for my Dodgers and Sun Devils, or I'd be in sports purgatory right now.

If Jerry weren’t an arrogant, self-satisfied and delusional billionaire who wrongly thinks he is a “football guy”, he might try something different. But he cannot see what he refuses to even look at: His time as a relevant GM with the ability to build a quality roster in the cap era is long over. (He actually never had it anyway)

Father Time is undefeated. And Jerry is already defeated at 82. I wish the Jones kids had some sway with Jerry to make him step aside at least in a lesser role. I am highly doubtful that happens. But miracles are about all we can hope for these days.

Agreed and the Patriots dynasty was "America's Team" before that.

QB is a problem esp cap problem, but if you're looking there first, you missed that our playoff drought transcends all players and coaches and is the fault of Jerry Jones. It's almost been three decades and we will definitely be hitting that milestone very soon.

I dont know. Did Andy Reid flame out in Philly? What did that mean in Kansas City?

I don't think McCarthy flamed out or is past his prime. I just think he works for Jerry Jones.

We already are competitive. This has been an atrocious year and we still have 7 or 8 games. It's not competitive. It's contender.

I don't know how you contend with a fake GM, a fake VP of Personnel, an emasculated Head Coach and a fake QB.
Correction, fake "EVP" of Personnel Stephen Jones.
