Like to check out one of the Giant fan forums for any interesting tidbits and laughs. Came across below page discussing how Cowboys offense so successful. Real interesting and will bring a smile to your face.
So why is the Dallas offensive scheme so great? PSIMMS 22-25-268 : 9:52 am
We all know their offense is strong at every position (line, backs, WR's, TE's and QB) and they've been injury-free. A lot of differences though between what they run compared to what Gilbride does. Here are a few examples:
For instance, they bunch their WR's very often, which leads to confusion amongst the defenders (the play last night where Harris stayed at the line of scrimmage while Frank Walker was left with 2 WR's was a perfect example). I believe this could work very well with Plax and Amani in front of Sinorice. The bunch formation also works great for a weak side screen - they had 3 WR's on one side, Romo takes snap, quickly looks that way and then goes back to the weak side with a TE/FB and two linemen in front of the RB.
Next, look at their formation on any 3d and long play. They always have two guys (usually a RB and a TE) flanking Romo to max protect if need be. That's why Romo was able to find Crayton that 3d and 19 - he had all day and they were prepared for a blitz. We never do this (Eli only has one RB to one side) and therefore give our QB less time while simultaneously becoming more susceptible to the blitz.
In the red zone, they often have WR's lined up near each other and crossing ahead or behind one another. And their TE's not only run and just turn around - they then have them cut laterally. Romo almost always uses the front of the end zone.

Cowboys have great talent on offense.The OL is playing great,two excellent RB's, an athletic accurate QB,great WR's and one of the best TE's in the NFL.
The scary thing is they have played the whole year without Terry Glenn who was their best WR last year which has given playing time to Hurd and Miles two speed burners as the third WR option.They are loaded on offense and they are young also.I believe the key to their OL in their center Gurode who is definitely now one of the best centers in the NFL.

and to stop it, you better have a solid defense (pass rush, big line, fast LB's, good secondary, good scheme/coordinator) across the board. Without Woodson and a complimentary end to Kampman, the Pack D was in trouble for the opening gun.
They also make a lot of in-game adjustments, which is why they are so tough in 2d halves.

we could do the samething.... but the play calling isnt there... hell why cant we do short outs? suck in the dbs and lbs and then go deep ... not with plex but with toomer or i would have liked to say "MIX" but we got rid of that tall reciever..... oh yeah just good ol pound the ball jint football... "hows that working" NOT.... its all about the play calling....... STUPID

Good coachs, good scheme, good execution. Sure but not that much better than anyone else.
Top 2 WR, top 5 TE, quality RBs, OL playing very well, very good QB. That's all it takes. I could coach them to 400 points.

They have 3 receivers that can stretch the field, 2 of them also can go over the middle and are very good at YAC. You can't double team them all which then also opens it up for their excellent TE and a good receiving HB.
But it all starts with a good O-line, you give a good QB like Romo that much time combined with that set of talented receivers and you have a great offense.
You don't need long developing plays, you don't the QB to be perfect on his throws, you don't need anything more then 3-5 step drops and let the WR do the rest

It all starts there. I knew the line was good, but they dominated last night against a pretty good pass rushing team. Romo had all night back there, and any offense would look good when your QB has that much time.

There is none. Their o-line is built to eliminate pressure in the middle with huge guards and a great center. The tackles are a little lighter and fast so they don't get beat much by de's. If you blitz linebackers they kill you short. If you don't blitz they have too many pro bowl weapons to cover for very long. Even if you get to him early wrestling with 350 pound guys all night eventually takes it out of you. This is why some better teams have success early then seem to loose their wind in the fourth. Everyone try's to play zone on these guys. JG has figured out how to confuse zone coverage. Think I'm crazy? 5-10 times a game some one is running downfield uncovered. Man to man with a TO double is a more effective way to defend. That way no one gets lost in coverage. While none of this is revelatory it is relevant.

that's why Crayton has a huge game one week and no catches the next. Same with Witten. They have the weapons to beat you where you struggle.

On 3rd and long, often times we also flank both sides with players to assist in the pass rush. (Remember when Tyree chipped Diehl instead of Ellis/Ware?. Remember the screen to Pass with he and Droughns in the backfield?). We also run bunch plays.
They are getting loads of time from their offensive line. If someone breaks free, it is usually one person so Romo has time to side step the pressure or run from the pocket. Their offensive line is huge and my fear going into the year was that they would be allowed to mug opposing players and that has come to fruition.
I wouldn't say that the offense is set for years. TO is a hall of fame caliber receiver who isn't acting up yet. Their left tackle, the most important line position, is fairly old and has had some injuries in the past. Besides Glenn, they have been remarkably healthy. I really don't count Glenn as I would think that his career is over. The sun is shining on the Cowboys - they are good but some of it is luck (ex. Marco Columbo couldn't stay healthy for his first couple years in the league - signs a contract with Dallas and is a model of health). I wouldn't call it superior coaching or superior talent.

But it's more than that.
We're seeing what you can do with a dominant OL, an accurate, smart and mobile QB, 2 solid RBs and some great receivers. They've got it all offensively. Very rarely do you see it all come together in the same season, as it has with DAL.
I still think they are getting the usual DAL officiating, but they have all the ingredients right now.
I actually think their offense is even more well-rounded than NE's due to the power running game. NE is slightly better overall simply because of Brady.

but the have well designed route combos that often attack an area. They're designed to take advantage of one defender being slightly out of place or indecisive. Much less miscommunication like you see with our O. And the have talented players to pull it off.

I doubt Drew Bledsoe could have this much success back there. Romo just has the playmaking ability along with T.O. and that big, fat Offensive Line. The Dallas Cowboys are a blessed team.

Lets face it. The kid has turned the offense completely around. Last year their OL was fair at best and he was still finding ways to move the ball. He is the key. Like it or not he has the goods.

Romo is good no question, but that OL has moved them from our level (Slightly upper mid tier) to the next level (flat out good). If they had the same OL as last year, we win at least one of our games against them this year. Plus TO had a bum hand for most of last year. It's way more than just the QB.
AND, give props to Jerry Jones (As much as I HATE the guy). He did what it took this year... this is CLEARLY Parcells built team, but hiring Wade Philips (As much as BBI LAUGHED) was a GREAT hire... Wade runs the same type of 3-4 that Parcells favored. Garret was a great hire to complement on Offense, and Leonard Davis was a HUGE HUGE HUGE signing.

But if they had some stiff playing QB right now where would they be? Romo was a back-up for years. Now he is running the show and doing a great job. What if they had our back-up QBs? Do you think they would be running away with the East?
