wow, any catch Chris Gamble's play on a Carolina punt return?

Watch for it during highlights because it may have just changed the outcome of the Minny-Panther game.
anyway, 4th quarter, minny down by 7. Minnesota gets stopped 3 and out at their own 7 and punts. Gamble fields the punt and out of nowhere raises up and tries to throw an across-field lateral which of course was recovered by minnesota. Minny scores a TD to tie.
I, nor the announcers, have any idea whether what Gamble did was a called play or not but it looked like it wasn't.
