Giants fans aren't feeling the optimism we are

The Giants didn't look like they were going anywhere in 2007. They were 10-6 and the Cowboys owned them during the regular season. The Giants ended up getting hot at just the right time and went on to beat a 17-0 team in the SB. They were 0-3 vs the Cowboys and Pats during the regular season in 07 and finished 2-0 against them during the postseason. The Giants looked done after the 09 and 2010 season missing the playoffs both years. The Giants fans wanted Coughlin gone. They bounced back in 2011 and ended up being the only 9-7 team to ever win a SB. I'm certainly not saying the Giants will be anything special in 2013 but what I am saying is you can never count them out especially when Coughlin is on the hot seat. LOL They have a HC and QB who have a pair of championship rings and a team that doesn't give up.

They looked dead in 2011 at 7-7 and BOOM! The Giants are a team that you can never take for granted. They can look like crap for a month then out of nowhere start playing championship football. They're one of the strangest teams I've ever seen. They've proven that regardless of what their team is looking like or what their record is if it's good enough to get them into the playoffs anything can happen. They're able to plug in players and win. In 07 they won it all with Burress, Toomer, Shockey and an obscure TE who ended up making arguably the greatest catch in SB history. In 2011 they won it all with Cruz, Nicks and Manningham.

That's what I'm trying to tell you... in 07 and again in 11, the Giants didn't seem like they do now. Then, they had that pass rush that could change a game at any time. Now, they just don't feel that way. In those super bowl years you knew they had a serious pass rush. Now, their pass rush isn't nearly as good as it was in those years. This year's team doesn't have much that really sticks out as exceptional besides Cruz.

I could be wrong, but that's what I think.

they drafted Moore to replace Osi,i dont think they will miss a beat regarding pass rush.

Thanks KJJ. We should all just burn our jerseys, hats and T-shirts that bare the name Cowboys and snarl at any positive vibe that we might feel coming on. Thank you for setting us on the correct path of fandom.

You're an admitted homer who always predicts the Cowboys are going to the SB. Are you on the right path? You're traveling down a yellow brick road...wake up! LOL

Their pass rush didn't do a whole lot in 07 until it came on late that season. Romo had field days against them both times during the regular season tossing 8 TD passes. It still took a last ditch drive by Eli to win that SB. It took a last ditch drive for the Giants to win the SB in 2011. No one knows what their pass rush will be like until the regular season starts. They still have weapons on offense that's how you win championships today.

The Ravens didn't have close to the defense last year they had in previous seasons but won a championship. Defense is important but it's an offensive league and even the best defenses struggle to stop the explosive playmakers we see today. The player safety rules have handicapped defenses they need to turnovers to stop offenses. As long as the Giants have Eli and players like Victor Cruz and Nicks they'll compete.

Relax people. It is ok to be optimistic and ok to point out another team's fan base might not be as optimistic. Not exactly a hard hitting scouting report now is it.

Yeah the Cowboys who haven't made the playoffs in 3 straight years have a lot more reason for optimism than the Giants who are only one year removed from their last championship.

Haven't the vagiants missed the playoffs like 3 of the past 4 years? Dallas was a Dez fingertip away from sweeping them this past season. Anyway, this is about the upcoming season and I believe Dallas has more reason for optimism because they will field a better team IMO. You don't have to agree, but what happened with a 9-7 team in 2011 has little to do with this coming season.

They've missed the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years but won the SB the last time they made the playoffs. What happened last year with the Giants doesn't mean they won't bounce back and contend this season. Most feel they will but the new sheriff in town could be the Commanders. The Giants don't have a negative trend going like the Cowboys. They have more SB wins the past 6 years than the Cowboys have playoff wins. The Giants fans can't possibly feel as frustrated as Cowboy fans. The Cowboys swept the Giants in 07 what good did that do? Very few are taking the Cowboys seriously this season because we keep seeing the same thing every year with them. They have talent but can't put it together on the field consistently. For me personally I haven't seen anything to be optimistic about the past 3 years with the Cowboys.

It's been very discouraging watching such an inconsistent team the past 3 years. I have the same attitude heading into this season that I had heading into last season I'm hopeful that things will start to improve. You always have to hold onto hope or there's no point in being a fan of any team. I'll start feeling optimism when I start seeing some positive strides on the field as in good, solid consistent football. When the Cowboys stop folding in games that have their season riding on them and go out and get the job done like good football teams do then I'll start feeling optimistic.

Fans sense trends and watch the offseason closely, they sense their team trending downward and the pessimism creeps in. We on the other hand sense that the team is trending upward and the optimism has kicked into gear. Emotional trending aside I think both teams are about even... We're just happy to be getting better and they're depressed about getting worse.

Preseason is tough to get a read on teams, but I watched the Gnats vs Steelers and they didn't look that bad. Eli got his usual long TD to Cruz and their DL looks huge.

I'm just telling you. Go to their boards. I was in New York last week, and they feel they've gotten old and stale. Their defense is in shambles.

I wish Dallas Texas was more like New York, instead of a wet paper team almost every season. Realism goes a long way.

1 year is a long time in Today's NFL. The ravens probably won't be any good this year either.

Who was the preseason NFC East favorite both years the Giants won the Super Bowl?

Optimism is great but let your play on the field do the talking.

I think the big area of concern for the Giants is how weak they look in the back 7 on defense this year. Now add that onto a DL that often has struggled to stop the run. Now add that onto a DL without Osi, Tuck looks like a shell of his former self, Kiwi hasn't had more than 4 sacks in a long time and JPP had several shots in his back, failed a back PT program in the offseason and just had back surgery for persistent issues and may not be ready for the start of the season. Their defense may be a wreck this year.

It looks like they will have to win games with offense and they certainly have some weapons with Nicks, Cruz and David Wilson. I just wonder if they have enough blocking to get it done.

I like our chances to be beat them this year in the standings and to sweep the two games. We really owe them a whipping in Cowboys Stadium.

Honestly the Ravens weren't all that great last year until it all came together for them in the playoffs. They went 1-4 in Dec losing 3 straight. With all the players they've lost from last year they could end up 500 or worse. They have no idea what kind of team they're going to have. They were 10-6 with the team they had.

Little bit of optimism never hurt. What fun is it to be sure you have no chance then be smug you were right when they don't win it all?

the giants are a team that is past its prime. They have lost allot of players and are having to fork out allot of money to their wrs who want to get paid, with little cap money. That's not saying their not good. As long as they have Eli and coughlin they have a shot. They will be well coached and play hard. They've got 2 rings to show for it but their best days are behind them with this group. If I was a giant fan I'd take it. This cowboy team is on the upswing. It reminds me of the young Jimmy Johnson teams. I'm not ready to scream Super bowl yet , but we have every right to be optimistic.

Nothing wrong with having some optimism but some of what is posted here is clearly delusion.
