Mario Manningham - The rookie wideout who has the New York media buzzing was unimpressive at his first mini camp. Manningham had trouble tracking down several deep balls (which is supposed to be his strength) and was not on the field when he was supposed to be several times during practice. The coaches were heard yelling at him several times, and he ran a few incorrect routes. This happens with rookies, however I would much rather be hearing he is catching deep homerun balls than this report.

I'll say it for the 5000th time - Manningham is a waste of skin. Now sit back and watch.

I'll say this again...DON'T EXPECT A ROOKIE WIDE RECEIVER TO PAY DIVIDENDS IN THEIR FIRST YEAR! Whether it's Devon Thomas or Malcolm Kelly or DeShaun Jackson or James Hardy, etc. They're LIKE QBs and RBs...it takes TIME for them to learn the systems.

Actually, RB's is about the easiest position to translate from college to the NFL. They mostly go on their run instincts and don't have much to learn.

I agree with the rest of your post, though.

Giants rookie WR Mario Manningham has been slow to impress in practice sessions. He has run the wrong route more than once and hasn’t tracked down some deep throws, which he often did at Michigan. He’s in no real danger of being cut during camp, but he might be primed for a “redshirt” type of season, our sources tell us.

Ha. That is a real shame. And vet WR whines. Poor midgets.

More Gnat problems.....Brandon Jacobs, RB Thursday 6/19, 3:24 PM CT

Running back Brandon Jacobs is entering the final year of his contract and looking for a big payday. The New York Giants have a differing view on the possible compensation package, but the Newark Star-Ledger is speculating that the recent probation violation of Ahmad Bradshaw could possibly jump-start the negotiations.

Our View: The Giants were previously utilizing Bradshaw as leverage in the contract negotiations, but the fact that he is currently sitting in jail on a probation violation, places some doubt on that insurance policy. While the Giants would like to see Jacobs make it through a full season healthy, he is clearly the best back on the roster. Stay tuned.

It seems like over the course of the Giants' history-the years after they win championships, they just end up getting distracted and stink it up the year after.

Remember that '87 club-even Parcells almost lost control of that locker room. Sure, the strike may have hurt that team(they were winless during that 3 game replacement players period), but nonetheless-they weren't focused at all that year.

Good. I never really cared much for Manningham and he always struck me as a real boom or bust kind of guy. I've got a feeling he'll be a big bust for them.
