Giants do claim two, cut one, add four to practice squad
Boothe and Edwards are officially added, and veteran G Zach Piller is cut. Boothe is younger and healthier -- remember that motto? -- and Piller, who made it through camp in good health but was part of a second-unit OL that had every backup QB running for his life, can't compete with that.
CB E.J. Underwood, WR Brandon London, OL Matt Lentz and DE Marquies Gunn were added to the practice squad.
Giants are now at 53 players, with Michael Strahan due to report tomorrow to be the 54th. So someone else has to go.

Giants reportedly claim two off waivers
They would be OL Kevin Boothe, from the Raiders (per the NFL Network) and CB Dovonte Edwards, from the Vikings (per Kevin Seifert of the Minny Star-Tribune).
And it appears K Dave Rayner, just cut by the Packers, is on his way for a tryout.
The two waiver claims mean the Giants have to trim two more guys. Boothe, a second-year guard out of Cornell (and born in Queens), started 14 games for the Raiders as a rookie. His addition might mean the subtraction of Adam Koets, though Koets has worked at both guard and tackle. Not that well, but maybe the Giants feel he's got some promise.
Edwards didn't play at all last season after a good rookie year in 2005. Might mean the end of the line for Craig Dahl, despite the fact that he made the cut yesterday.
Another possibility to be cut is Robert Douglas. A person familiar with the Giants' thinking told me that had the Packers not called about Ryan Grant yesterday -- he went there for a sixth-round pick -- Grant would have made the roster and Douglas would have been cut. The Giants were apparently comfortable with Reuben Droughns and Mike Matthews filling the FB role, so they may feel that way again with some more trimming to be done.
