Is it just me or the Giants seeming kinda like the Skins of old.... Constantly signing ppl to fill holes... So now we have how many new safeties in the division? Antrel Rolle & Deon Grant on the Giants and Marlin Jackson on the Eagles....

Signing Rolle and Grant does remind me a little of the DT bonanza they went on last year.

Yeah, that worked well.

No, mostly just annoyed. I hear that a healthy bowel movement improves that. I'll send the wife for some prunes.

Or a cup of old fashioned oatmeal with an apple sauted in butter...

The Giants aren't done trying to improve their safety position.

After making a big splash by adding Antrel Rolle in free agency, Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that former Seahawks safety Deon Grant will pay the team a visit Thursday.

The "signs are positive" that Grant could quickly sign a deal during his visit.

The Giants want more depth in case Kenny Phillips' recovery from his knee condition doesn't go smoothly. We're not surprised Grant, 31, is getting interest.

He was a decent player for the Seahawks, just not decent enough to be worth $11 million over the next two years.

you sign someone to get better, not because they were decent on some other team. Deon is older. he is not an upgrade over Hamlin or Ball. so why sign him? NY is probably entertaining to sign him due to lack of depth at the position. We have ball who in my opinion is better.

NYG: Veteran Safety Signs

Deon Grant Profile

The New York Giants have signed free-agent S Deon Grant, the team announced.

“I’m happy to be here,” Grant said. “I wanted to be here when I went to Seattle, but they came into the picture late. This opportunity on the second go-round – it was destined. I’m happy about the coaching staff and my new teammates and I’m ready to help them win the Super Bowl again.”

The Giants created room on the roster and in the defensive backfield by rescinding their tender offer to restricted free agent S C.C. Brown, who played in every game with seven starts in his only Giants season.

Grant, who turned 31 last month, has started 144 consecutive regular season games and seven postseason games over the last nine seasons – three apiece with Carolina, Jacksonville and Seattle. The 144 starts in a row is the fifth-longest streak among active players:

“We signed Deon Grant because, number one, he’s durable,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “He really hasn’t missed time. He’s a durable veteran who will bring depth and leadership to our safety position.”

Grant, 6-2 and 215 pounds, entered the NFL as the Panthers’ second-round draft choice (the 57th overall selection) in 2000. He missed his entire rookie season with a fractured hip, but has since started every game.

In 2003, he had a career-high 105 tackles and helped lead the Panthers to Super Bowl XXXVIII, where Carolina lost to New England. The following year, he joined the Jaguars as a free agent and in 2005, Grant had 90 tackles and three interceptions and helped Jacksonville earn a postseason berth.

Grant moved to Seattle as a free agent in 2007 and the Seahawks won the NFC West title. Seattle released him earlier this year with three seasons left on his contract.

The signing of Grant gives the team tremendous depth at safety and Grant is capable of playing either safety position.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, Grant was an All-America and the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year at the University of Tennessee. Grant was born on March 14, 1979.

Giants take a look at Deon Grant; Not us, why?

Because our starting Safeties are better, and because Deon Grant is a progress stopper for Allan Ball. Bringing him to Dallas means we can't select a S high in the draft either. We're simply not that desperate for S help like the NYG are.

The Giants did get better. Signing Grant allowed them to release Brown who is just awful.
