How soon they forget about 2014 going into a season with arguably more talent.
And on the contrary, it is amazing how the 2014 season still lingers in the room. Not like stale flatulence, but like the sweet sunny smell of flowers that are two years old.
Every season is different. Every team is different.
I know I thought the team was ascending after 2014 until the bottom came out.
And while I understand why people want to cling to that season, it has little relation to what this season will hold.
It seems we learned from that success and are trying to replicate it. Drafting Elliott to replace the missing running game identity, for example. We are even inadvertently repeating the same DL formula, where it is a rag tag bunch versus the glowing "rush men" idea that we thought was going to dominate.
But the missing piece we did not learn from was the backup QB. That is the one looming dark cloud in the distance that can run in at any time.
What transfers from season to season is learning from success and disaster.
It would make me feel so much better if there was a chance to get another veteran, perhaps McCown.
Yes, they tried to get Lynch etc., but trying and failing does not help all that much. Recognizing the problem is only part of problem solving.
