Florida State’s Rolle set to work out on April 7
Posted: March 23rd, 2010 | Gil Brandt | Tags: 2010 Pro Days, Florida State, Myron Rolle

http://blogs.nfl.com/category/pro-days/

Florida State’s Myron Rolle has announced a workout date. The safety did not participate in the Seminoles’ pro day on March 19, but did perform at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Rolle’s older brother and manager, McKinley Rolle, revealed Rolle will work out for teams on April 7. The workout will take place at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.

A year removed from his playing career at Florida State, Rolle chose to bypass last year’s draft for a chance to accept a Rhodes Scholarship and study at Oxford in England.

He was productive during his college career, however, finishing with 7.5 tackles for loss, 12 passes defensed, one forced fumble and an interception.

Tate displays good hands at Notre Dame Pro Day
Posted: March 23rd, 2010 | Gil Brandt | Tags: 2010 Pro Days, Eric Olsen, Golden Tate, Jimmy Clausen, Kyle McCarthy, Notre Dame, Sam Young

Notre Dame may not have had the number of elite prospects at its pro day this year that it has grown accustomed to in the past (outside of QB Jimmy Clausen, who scheduled a separate workout on April 9), but it’s still a prime destination for NFL talent evaluators.

Scouts were served a big breakfast before the Tuesday workouts and all were made to feel wanted. Despite the absence of likely first-round talent, there were still several solid prospects on display.

WR Golden Tate (5-foot-10 1/2, 202 pounds) is probably going to hear his name called in the second round, and caught the ball well in position drills. He stood on the rest of his workout numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine.

Tate was cheered on by Clausen, who came to the event to show his support. In return, Tate will catch passes from Clausen at his April 9 pro day. Clausen spoke with NFL.com and said he ran for the first time on Monday and is recovering well from toe surgery. He expects to be ready for his pro day.

On to the rest of the noteworthy prospects:

OL Sam Young (6-7 7/8, 315) had a 9-foot, 1-inch broad jump and did position drills, but stood on the rest of his combine numbers.

OL Eric Olsen (6-4, 301) did position drills.

S Kyle McCarthy (5-11 3/4, 203) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 and 4.54 seconds and had a 6.50-second three-cone drill.

Unfamiliar territory for South Dakota State
Posted: March 23rd, 2010 | Gil Brandt | Tags: 2010 Pro Days, Casey Knips, Danny Batten, Glen Fox, South Dakota State

It’s not often that South Dakota State plays host to a large gathering of NFL scouts. With one draftable prospect and two others worthy of a look as rookie free agents, however, this year is different.

Ten team representatives showed up, and the South Dakota State hosts were ecstatic to see such a large crowd.

The workout was held indoors on a fast rubber track, while the posiiton drils took place on the basketball floor.

DE/LB Danny Batten (6-foot-2 7/8, 246 pounds) ran a 4.71 and 4.73 in the 40-yard dash, had a 32 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump, a 4.05-second short shuttle, a 7.32-second three-cone drill and 30 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

OT Casey Knips (6-7 3/4, 306) ran 5.07 and 5.08 in the 40, had a 28-inch vertical jump, 8-8 broad jump, 4.70 short shuttle, 7.92 three-cone drill and did 28 bench press reps.

WR Glen Fox (6-2, 197) ran 4.45 and 4.45 in the 40, had a 35-inch vertical jump, a 9-10 broad jump, a 4.24 short shuttle, a 6.95 three-cone drill and 12 bench press reps.

Lindenwood prospects step up at Missouri pro day

A pair of standouts from Lindenwood came to Missouri’s second pro day and they performed well. The event took place indoors on FieldTurf.

WR Marcel Thompson (6-foot-2 3/4, 205 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 and 4.56 seconds, had a 35-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 3-inch broad jump, a 4.49-second short shuttle, a 7.30-second three-cone drill and 12 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

CB Adarrious Ross (5-8 1/8, 177) ran a 4.59 and 4.63 in the 40, had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 9-8 broad jump, a 4.37 short shuttle, a 7.07 three-cone drill and 14 bench press reps.

Lions, Bengals come to see Bowling Green’s Barnes
Posted: March 23rd, 2010 | Jason Feller | Tags: 2010 Pro Days, Bowling Green, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Freddie Barnes, Tyler Sheehan

Fifteen team representatives, including receiver coaches from the Lions and Bengals showed up to Bowling Green’s pro day on March 16.

Why? To watch Freddie Barnes. The receiver led the nation with 155 catches in 2009, and that production attracts interest.

Barnes (6-foot, 215 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.67 and 4.70 seconds, had a 30 1/2-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 11-inch broad jump, a 4.55-second short shuttle, a 7.16-second three-cone drill and did 12 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

Bowling Green QB Tyler Sheehan was his quarterback, as he worked out for about 45 minutes doing position drills.

Penn State’s pro day speaks for itself. A number of highly touted prospects worked out, and most of them posted outstanding numbers. The March 17 event was held indoors on FieldTurf in front of 25 team representatives.

Both of the 40-yard dashes were run in the same direction, and some eye-opening times were recorded.

Here is a look at the top players who participated:

LB Navorro Bowman (6-foot 5/8, 236 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 and 4.66 seconds, had a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 9-inch broad jump, a 4.20-second short shuttle, a 6.70-second three-cone drill and did position workouts.

QB Daryll Clark (6-2 1/4, 235) ran the 40 in 4.72 and 4.76 seconds, had a 33-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 8-inch broad jump, a 4.28 short shuttle, a 6.97 three-cone drill and did position workouts.

DT Jared Odrick (6-5, 298) ran 5.03 and 4.95 in the 40, had a 29-inch vertical jump, a 4.44 short shuttle and stayed with the rest of his workout numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. He had 34-inch arms and did position workouts.

TE Andrew Quarless (6-4 1/2, 252) ran 4.57 and 4.57 in the 40, had a 9-11 broad jump, a 4.57 short shuttle and a 7.29 three-cone drill. He did not lift.

TE Mickey Shuler (6-4 1/8, 251) ran a 4.63 and 4.66 in the 40, had a 37 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-11 broad jump, a 4.25 short shuttle, a 6.77 three-cone drill and did 28 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

LB Sean Lee (6-2, 239) ran 4.60 and 4.64 in the 40, had a 4.16 short shuttle, a 6.89 three-cone drill and stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine.

LB Josh Hull (6-2 7/8, 236) ran a 4.76 and 4.81 in the 40, had a 32-inch vertical jump, a 9-9 broad jump and a 6.73 three-cone drill.

OT Dennis Landolt (6-4 5/8, 306) ran a 5.01 and 5.03 in the 40, had a 28 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 9-1 broad jump, a 4.46 short shuttle, a 7.49 three-cone drill and 24 bench press reps.

Clausen to cheer on his teammates at Irish pro day
Posted: March 22nd, 2010 | Gil Brandt | Tags: 2010 Pro Days, Golden Tate, Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame

Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen won’t be working out for teams until April 9, but that doesn’t mean the signal-caller won’t be on hand on Tuesday for the Irish pro day.

He flew back to South Bend, Ind., to root on his former teammates. Such a gesture is commendable and shows his commitment to his fellow Notre Dame prospects trying to make their NFL dreams come true.

Irish WR Golden Tate, who himself is a top receiver prospect, will be on hand to catch passes from Clausen when Clausen does his workout on April 9.

It’s highly probable Clausen will be one of the first five players selected in the draft.

Scouts turn out to watch Hillsdale’s Veldheer
Posted: March 22nd, 2010 | Gil Brandt | Tags: 2010 Pro Days, Drew Berube, Jared Veldheer

Jared Veldheer worked out for several NFL scouts at Hillsdale's pro day. (Michael Conroy / Associated Press)
Hillsdale’s pro day is not usually a hot spot for pro scouts, but this year is different. OT Jared Veldheer has emerged as a good prospect, and is generating plenty of interest.

He had outstanding workout numbers at the NFL Scouting Combine, finishing among the top offensive line performers in the 40-yard dash, the bench press, the vertical jump, the broad jump, the three-cone drill and the short shuttle.

He stood on those numbers at Hillsdale’s pro day, but did position drills. Offensive line coaches from Seattle and Baltimore were on hand to see him, and he has more workouts planned with the Chiefs, Rams, Eagles and Raiders. The pro day was held outdoors on grass in front of nine team representatives with great weather conditions (55 degrees, sunny, no wind).

How did such a physically impressive prospect end up at Hillsdale you ask?

Well, his brother played basketball at Hillsdale, and in February of his senior year in high school he accepted a football scholarship to join his brother.

While Veldheer was the headliner, there was another notable prospect at Hillsdale’s pro day. DL Drew Berube (6-4 1/2, 266) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.08 and 5.09 seconds, had a 27-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 8-inch broad jump, a 4.54-second short shuttle, a 6.96-second three-cone drill and did 17 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. He has a visit scheduled with an undisclosed team.

Twenty five team representatives, including defensive back coaches from the Rams and Panthers, were in attendance at Vanderbilt’s pro day on March 19. What they witnessed was a good display of quickness by cornerback prospect Myron Lewis.

Lewis (6-foot-1 3/4, 205 pounds) stood on all of his NFL Scouting Combine numbers, but did perform well in the agility drills. He did the short shuttle in 4.20 seconds and ran the three-cone drill in 6.90 seconds.

The other noteworthy prospect to work out was OL Thomas Welch. Welch (6-6 3/4, 306) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.40 and 5.43 seconds and had a 4.70 short shuttle.

LeGarrette Blount had an impressive session at the Oregon pro day in front of NFL scouts. (Michael Conroy / Associated Press)
With his wife and little boy in tow, Oregon RB LeGarrette Blount flashed decent speed at the Ducks’ second pro day on March 18. Two TV stations were hooked up outside, and a Browns representative was in attendance to watch Blount run the 40-yard dash in 4.59 and 4.61 seconds.

He stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. He checked in at 6-foot 1/2, 238 pounds — a three-pound weight loss from his combine weigh-in.

The other notable prospect that worked out was S T.J. Ward. Ward (5-10 1/4, 210) was very loose in the hips, which bodes well for his coverage ability at the next level. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 and 4.48 seconds, had a 7.00-second three-cone drill and a 4.12-second short shuttle.

Pitt’s Dickerson continues his great pre-draft workouts

Dorin Dickerson, shown here at the NFL Scouting Combine, was top performer in most of his workouts during his pro day. (Michael Conroy / Associated Press)
One of the year’s most amazing workouts came from Pittsburgh TE Dorin Dickerson at the NFL Scouting Combine. He was a top performer for his position in just about every category (40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, and short shuttle.

With numbers like that, it should be no surprise that he stood on his combine numbers at Pittsburgh’s pro day. He did re-run the short shuttle and improved on his combine time of 4.30 seconds to 4.23 at the pro day.

He also performed well in position drills.

Twenty seven team representatives were on hand to watch Dickerson and three other notable prospects work out on March 16. A total of 15 prospects worked out indoors on FieldTurf, and Cardinals passing game coordinator Mike Miller was on hand.

Here are the other noteworthy performances:

TE Nate Byham (6-foot-3 7/8, 264 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.91 and 4.94 seconds, had a 31 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 9-inch broad jump, a 4.45-second short shuttle, a 7.05-second three-cone drill, and did 18 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

OL Robb Houser (6-2, 294) ran the 40 in 5.26 and 5.21, had a 30-inch vertical jump, an 8-11 broad jump, a 4.73 short shuttle, a 7.62 three-cone drill and 33 bench press reps.

QB Bill Stull (6-2, 211) ran the 40 in 4.92 and 4.97, had a 27-inch vertical jump, a 9-8 broad jump, and 15 bench press reps.

San Jose State’s prospects try to make an impression

LB Justin Cole was one of eleven Spartan players to work out at San Jose State's pro day. (Ben Liebenberg / NFL.com)
Even without being a big-time football program, San Jose State has been good for at least a few standout prospects in recent years. But this year could be different, evident by a struggling Spartans squad in 2009 and that no position coaches showed up among the 15 NFL teams at the school’s pro day on May 19th.

In all, 11 Spartans and three others from smaller schools worked out on FieldTurf outdoors.

Linebacker Justin Cole (6-foot-3 5/8, 245 pounds) ran 4.90 and 4.85 seconds in the 40-yard dash, 4.50 in the short shuttle, did 24 bench press repetitions are 225, and stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine.

Wide receiver Kevin Jurovich (5-10 5/8, 182) ran 4.45 and 4.54 40s, had a 37 ½-inch vertical jump, 10-2 broad jump, ran a 4.2 short shuttle, and didn’t do a three-cone because he said he had a sore groin. That prompted one NFL scout to say, “He sure makes some good cuts for a guy with a sore groin.”

Linebacker Carl Ihenacho (6-2 3/8, 245) ran a 5.12 40 and had a sore knee that his time short. He will work out again at Hawaii’s pro day.

With attention on Bulaga, others join him in spotlight

OT Bryan Bulaga did well on position drills but chose to stand on his combine numbers during Iowa's pro day. (Darron Cummings / Associated Press)
OT Bryan Bulaga (6-foot-5 3/8, 316 pounds) may have been the headline at Iowa’s pro day on Monday, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t several other elite prospects on hand to work out indoors on FieldTurf.

Bulaga certainly did his part, nailing position drills and looking very impressive to the 27 team representatives on hand. But while he chose to stand on his workout numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, the other top players took part in the workouts, and often impressed.

TE Tony Moeaki (6-3 1/8, 245), who performed for tight end coaches from Baltimore and Cincinnati, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 and 4.70 seconds, had a 36 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot broad jump, a 4.46-second short shuttle, a 7.03 three-cone drill, 25 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds and looked really good in position drills. He could hear his name called sometime Friday, April 23 when rounds 2-3 unfold.

LB Pat Angerer (6-0, 234) ran 4.65 and 4.64 in the 40 (though he plays faster than his timed speed), had a 39-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot, 3-inch broad jump. He didn’t do position workouts, because he reinjured his groin.

LB A.J. Edds (6-3 1/4, 247) ran a 4.67 and 4.69 in the 40, had a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot broad jump, a 4.49 short shuttle, a 7.40 three-cone drill and 18 bench press reps.

OL Kyle Calloway (6-6 1/2, 323) ran a 5.53 and 5.57 in the 40 and did 24 bench press reps.

CB Amari Spievey (5-10 7/8, 199) ran a 4.53 and 4.59 in the 40, had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot broad jump, a 4.35 short shuttle, a 6.90 three-cone drill and did six bench press reps.

The scouts love Iowa’s pro day which was run by Chris Doyle, the Hawkeyes’ strength coach. Doyle kept the agents out and fed visitors a big lunch before the event started.

He was unable to work out at the Scarlet Knights’ pro day on March 10 due to a stomach virus.

Levine aces Tennessee State’s pro day
Posted: March 22nd, 2010 | Gil Brandt | Tags: 2010 Pro Days, Anthony Levine, Tennessee State

While he won’t go anywhere near as high as fellow Tennessee State alum DB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who was drafted 16th overall by the Cardinals in 2008, DB Anthony Levine is steadily working his way onto draft boards.

He helped himself with a good workout at Tennessee State’s pro day, which took place in front of 14 team representatives on March 20.

Levine (5-foot-11 1/8, 193 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 and 4.53 seconds, had a 35-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 6-inch broad jump, a 4.05-second short shuttle, a 6.75-second three-cone drill and did 20 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

He also looked very good in position drills. Expect his name to be called sometime on the third day of the draft, which features rounds 4-7.

Yeah, I read that lol,his combine time was a 4.40. And I think that 4.23 is a mistake because I'm pretty sure he didn't run and thats VERY unlikely at that size.

i think its a type, because his combine was 4.4, im betting in his rerun he ran a 4.32, that sounds more feasible;

wait till hostile sees that, possibly he ran a 4.32, but i think its some kind of typo
