If you watched him the last two years in Carolina and Indy, it was clear he has declined significantly from his DPOY year of 2019.

How many 33 year old CBs do you see in the league?

All that said, I thought he was just fine as CB2. As CB1... not so much.

He certainly has looked old so far, but I would be more concerned about Bland. The Cardinals were clearly picking on him when they needed a play and he was not up to the task. Bland seems to be better in the slot. Maybe they should try Lewis outside. I am a firm believer in exceptional speed at CB, especially makeup speed. Guys who run 4.5 have to be technically sound, but there are so many 4.3 WRs in the league now speed is essential.

But the Cowboys pass defense has always been about the pass rush harassing the QB and forcing him to get the ball out too soon. When the Cardinals used the Cowboys aggressiveness against them.

Last year not having anyone opposite of Diggs hurt us, and this year might be even worse now that Diggs is out. Gilmore can look good sometimes just from his experience, but he is playing his age, just looks slow. It's gonna be worrisome as the season goes on
if you think that trayvon diggs being out on defense last night you weren't watching.. a lot of it was the defensive line missing backs and tackles, safety's same thong missed Tackles over pursuit, penaties and oh wait CANT STOP THE RUN OR THE RPOS OR THE MOBILE QB, SOUND FAMILIAR?,

we weren't playing Aaron rodgers or tom brady last night.... not even lamar jackson or jalen hurts... the pass coverage really didn't have a whole lot to do to why we lost.... we lost to Dobbs and a bag of chips, AGAIN

D was terrible at all levels..not just coverage...

He is still a solid corner but just don't expect the DPOTY Gilmore those days are over. He was the prefect #2 corner with DIggs but things happen.

I feel our defense is a problem when we're not able to hit the QB.

As mentioned already, Gilmore is a good qb 2. If nobody can get to the QB, our corners now will get roasted and that's very problematic for our offense style now since it's predicated on our defense shutting the opposing offense down and not getting behind. If our defense is prone to giving up quick scores, we're going to be in trouble because our dink and dunk offense won't be able to put up enough points when we get behind.

This was my big worry about Diggs going down. Not that you can't use the current CB depth to have at least a league average starter fill in, but now you get the ripple effect down the rest of the defense. Gilmore stats to move around move and that safety help over the top has to go to Blands side, leaving Gilmore a bit more vulnerable. Not only that but now you're playing more deep safety looks taking help away from run support which is where some of our safeties really thrive.

It's not a death sentence, this is still a really good unit despite a bad game. Not sure what DQ will do, but what i would like to see is what Belichick did for so many years on defense. Use your best CB (Gillmore) to take away the #2 receiver and constantly double up a teams #1. In order to do that though you really need the front 7 to tighten up on the run defense. If you're getting gashed constantly by outside runs and counter plays like we saw yesterday you become forced to leave your DBs on islands.

He's 33 years old. He wasn't brought in to cover the speedy #1 WR he was brought in to cover the #2 WR. It's a problem.
The role he was signed for he’s fine at
Now he’s the one and he’s probably past the age that’s his strength. But honestly yesterday no one covered very well. No one played the run well. The defense as a whole just didn’t look good. But they can bounce back. No team plays great all 17 games but you hope you can win games even when you don’t have a good game
