good analysis, but what about the defense?
450+ yards to the raiders is terrible, preseason or not. excuse makers say well, it's just the back ups.
watch the steelers' back ups- still making plays and creating turnovers in the arizona game last night.

Well, it was just the backups and that's a very valid point. Do you think our starting D would've gave that up to the Raiders? C'mon man, they're backups for a reason..

Interestin' read gimmesix! Thanks for taking the time.

Do you conclude that Oakland's backups are "better" than ours? While I'm certainly not despondent over this game, I do think a lack of depth is probably our achilles heel this season.

Their backups on offense were definitely better overall than our backups on defense, particularly the defensive line and cornerbacks. I don't think our linebackers had much of a chance because of the line play and the young inexperienced players playing those positions.

I was disappointed that Bowen and Hatcher didn't do more when they were in there, but I saw what I expected from the backup NTs and the backup corners.

Offensively, we didn't capitalize on some opportunities, but the backups played fine against Oakland's backups. The line probably looked better than it is because the second-teammers stayed in even when Oakland was down to its lesser reserves. I was a bit disappointed with Tashard Choice's play, but his best run got called back by holding, and I think McGee hurt our chances of scoring more because he was so hesitant to throw the ball.
