Do you conclude that Oakland's backups are "better" than ours? While I'm certainly not despondent over this game, I do think a lack of depth is probably our achilles heel this season.
Their backups on offense were definitely better overall than our backups on defense, particularly the defensive line and cornerbacks. I don't think our linebackers had much of a chance because of the line play and the young inexperienced players playing those positions.
I was disappointed that Bowen and Hatcher didn't do more when they were in there, but I saw what I expected from the backup NTs and the backup corners.
Offensively, we didn't capitalize on some opportunities, but the backups played fine against Oakland's backups. The line probably looked better than it is because the second-teammers stayed in even when Oakland was down to its lesser reserves. I was a bit disappointed with Tashard Choice's play, but his best run got called back by holding, and I think McGee hurt our chances of scoring more because he was so hesitant to throw the ball.
