I wanted to get this in before the final roster cuts started rolling in. I'm fortunate with the first few I've seen — I did not have Tanney or Armstrong on my final version. I didn't think Tanney was accurate enough in the face of heavy pressure to be kept on the 53.

I'm doing this quickly, so I have no comments on this one at this time.

SPECIAL TEAMS

NOTE We could end up keeping six safeties (Matt Johnson) and going lighter at WR (Benford) or OL (Weems), but eight would be a low number for the OL.

No way Matt Johnson goes to the PS. He'll be snatched up in a heartbeat. PUP is far more likely.

Can't PUP him because he wasn't put on it at the start of camp. Might use the IR designation where we can bring him back after eight weeks, though.

But not sure anyone would sign him right now because of his injury. Of course, that probably does mean we'll have to IR him or waive him injured with a settlement.

No Way Danny McCray makes it. McCray is too expensive and has proven he is unable to play safety, especially in this scheme.

Injuries keep McCray around. With Heath looking like at least the next McCray, either Matt Johnson or Eric Frampton had to knock McCray off the roster. Neither stayed healthy to do it.

Isn't McCray injured as well?

Hadn't read anything on that.

But based on Garrett's comments today on Johnson, it looks like Dallas will keep him in some capacity. I think that means we'll carry six safeties for now and five receivers.

That would make my practice squad choices: Tanney, Benford, McSurdy, Cameron Lawrence, Jakar Hamilton.

Could add Andre Smith if he's cut.

That would leave two spots open, and I'm OK if Dallas fills those with players who weren't in camp with us.

I don't see any upside with McSurdy. I think he is just too slow.

That's an issue, but some of it can be overcome by working on his recognition skills. I'd put him on the PS for now, but certainly wouldn't feel bad if a better prospect came along and replaced him.

Can't pup him, and what team is going to sign a guy who in two years can't stay healthy and hasn't proven himself...

There is a reason they're giving this guy a lot of leeway. And I saw it in the short amount of time he was on the field this preseason. Dude was out there for like a quarter and he flat out looked like the best player on the field. I think he would be picked up in a matter of seconds.

Swap Benford for Rosario, Heath for Matt Johnson, otherwise we have the same.

Five TEs are possible. I don't see Heath going anywhere, though. The Cowboys seem to like him and with a couple of safeties hurt, they will probably at least keep him on the 53 to start the season.
