Or however you spell it. Watched him during the Rose Bowl yesterday and thought he was outstanding in both run blocking and pass protection. If we don't get Peterson, I would take this guy. Play him at RT and we have our bookends for the net decade.

I agree 100%! He has great footwork, size and athleticism. I'll take a guy that can start from day one and start for 10 years.. regardless of if he plays RT and people say thats to high to draft a RT.

Then trade down, grab another second and then draft him. Or pick Fairly,PP,Quinn or Dareus in 1 and trade back up to get him.

as I see right now we three choices at OT in ythe 10 to 20 range

Sherrod

Carimi - not sure if he can play LT

Smith - late first early second

these are only three OT to look at early -

I would choose Sherrod

Doug Free played well at ROT last year in Columbo's absence and with the top LOT still on the board, why not have the flexibility of 2 athletic young bookends that are interchangeable? Sure makes game-day decisions of whittling down 53 to 45 easier, in the case of deciding on back-up OL in the case of injuries. This is a case where value equals need and is a fine pick by Dallas.

I don't know...

I watched Sherrod a couple of times earlier in the year. I wasn't too impressed. He looked a step slow in the Arkansas game.

Admittedly, I haven't seen much of him or Carimi....but there's an old saying that goes, "You can't teach size".

Carimi has that.

I've watched Sherrod and I've come away impressed with him.

Having said that, I think Carimi absolutely fits the mold of the typical Cowboys' OT (at least of recent history); he's an absolute beast in run blocking.

Obviously, others have been impressed. I saw him about 3 times this year. The Arkansas game may have been a bad one for him, but he looked slow all game.

Maybe I just caught him on bad days....and MSST's offense doesn't really have a whole lot of pro talent.

I'll wait until the All-Star games and combine before making final opinions.

If we take a RT in the top 10 of round 1 people will have apoplectic fits all over the forum.

A sure thing - even if its a RT? Id take it.

If the others in this forum tweak, remind them of our history of drafting lieman since 2003 starting with Al Johnson and ending with Robert Brewster in '09

You simply don't take RT's in the Top 10. If we're trading down, sure.

as bad as the defense is, fixing the OL is priority #1. All the Dez's and Miles' in the world are useless if your QB is running for his life on every snap.

Not to mention that whomever is rated at that position in this draft, you have to ask yourself this question:

Is the player THAT much better than Sam Young ?

As bad as Colombo was this year, JG never thought it was a good idea to play Sam Young. He was OK in pre-season, but there's no reason to believe that any first round prospect isn't that much better than Sam Young. Obviously some guys will be bust, but Sam Young was a 6th round pick and if the draft was re-done, he'd still likely be a 6th round pick.

I'm on board with Carimi as our second pick.

Don't want Colombo back.

Well, If Romo wouldn't have gone down and Kitna too, JG would have never played Stephen McGee who some in here were willing to cut outright, using those same arguments.

" Potentially " speaking, you're right. The thing is that the word " potential " means something that you probably already know. A perfect example of that is in this very team. I'm going to assume that these same front office and coaches saw more potential in Robert Brewster ( 3rd rond ) than they did in Doug Free ( 4th round pick ) or Sam Young ( 6th round pick ) himself. Yet, after the pads came on, who's starting, who's on the 53 man roster, and who's not ?

See, it's very easy to say this guy or that guy who's currently in college is better ( I do that myself very often ), but when the pads go on, the story often changes.

Is there a site that list mock draft rankings for players? Be instructive to see have far we could safely trade down and still get our tackle and maybe a second round draft choice.

Plus I would like to see Ware's evaluation of Young.

So I ask, what have you seen to be convinced that Sam Young is a capable starter in the NFL? I agree that not every prospect will represent an immediate upgrade. For example Sensabaugh, no SS in the draft will be an immediate upgrade over him, so why replace him, but based on what we've seen of Sam Young (only okay in pre-season), the number of players that are an upgrade over him is a lot larger

That honestly never made since to me. Why replace a McGee when
a.) we knew he was a project
b.) we were talking about late round prospects, who don't have 2 years NFL experience like McGee

I love it when you do that... :D

Some players I like in the first round:

Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU... probably have to trade up into the top 5 to get him, and that would really cost... I might pay the price, though...

Nate Solder, OT, Colorado... 7-6 inches tall, and runs a 4.3 40... OK, I'm kidding, but he is supposedly 6-9 inches tall and has reportedly run the 40 in under 4.8 seconds (I want verification of both of those from the Combine)... looks like he might be a good LT prospect in the NFL... I'd expect him to go in the 10-12 range...

Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal... I've read that the Boys have already shown some interest in him, he looks like a good fit for their 3-4... I see him going in the 12-15 range, so he should, I think, be on the board at pick 9 or 10...

Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin... sorry, Hos, gotta disagree with you this time... ordinarily, you'd be right, but the Boys have to start bringing in OL talent regardless of position, and start using premium picks to do so... I think he can play ROT in the NFL, and he might be NFL-ready pretty quick... if Paul Chryst were to come on board, this pick might become even more realistic, he's obviously the type of mauler who fits Chryst's offensive schemes... however, I do think that if I set on him as the draft shook out, I'd try to move down 5 or 6 picks from where the Boys will be picking (9 or 10)... that's where I see him going, 20-25...

Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State... I just really, really like this guy for the
Boys... he's short and stumpy, but a real wide load (6-1, 310-315 pounds)... and he's strong, like the ox... you could possibly trade down as far as pick 20 and still feel fairly confident about finding him still on board...

Stefen Wisniewski, C, Penn State... the best center in this draft, he has the size, the agility and the 'tude you want in a center... again, if you traded down to around 20, he's be a good bet to still be on the board...

Naturally, any of these trade down scenarios would involve acquiring extra picks... looking at that list, I think I'd roll the dice with the trade down to 15 or 20, either Paea or Wisniewski is almost certain to still be on the board at that point, perhaps even both of them... either would be a nice addition...

I'll almost certainly change my mind several times between now and draft day, LOL...

Now, the second round is easier for me, particularly if the Boys do not go OL in the first, but maybe even if they do-- I'm fixated on big ol' Marcus Cannon out of TCU...
