Give Me Gabe Carimi

I'm on board with Carimi as our second pick.

Don't want Colombo back.

He's a safe pick and quality too.

I bet his stock sores between now and the draft.

Hopefully he isnt this years Earl Thomas for the Cowboys.

So I ask, what have you seen to be convinced that Sam Young is a capable starter in the NFL?

Quite a bit more than I've seen of Carimi. At the very least, Young has a training camp and preseason games in his video archives. All Carimi has is a solid ( not dominant ) college resume and the word potential.

To me, drafting an O-lineman in this particular draft in the first round ( unless we trade way back ) is redundant. We already have " prospects " on the roster, and make no mistake about it, whichever O-lineman the Cowboys draft is going to be a prospect, not a starter. What we need is " doers ". That is, young vet players like Carl Nicks from the Saints and/or Mankin from NE, preferably both, who already know what they're doing and all you need to teach them the system and get out of their way. No " time to develop ", or " growing pains ", or anything of the kind. You get those in the later rounds.

Wait, so every OT prospect in the draft should theoretically be bypassed because former 6th round pick Sam Young has a training camp and some preseason games under his belt?

Why shouldn't that same logic be applied to say, Manny Johnson, when the Cowboys selected Dez Bryant last year? After all, Johnson had a training camp, preseason games and time on the practice squad under his belt.

Was it because Dez was a better prospect?

If we take a RT in the top 10 of round 1 people will have apoplectic fits all over the forum.

With good reason. Perfectly good RTs can be had on day 2. Check out Ryan Diem for an example. Fourth rounder.

That said, if we were to trade down to 18-20ish and get a LT prospect and a second round pick, I'm not complaining..much.

Just, as awful as the defense was/has been, shouldn't we put our high draft choices into the D?

Aren't we lacking fast 3-4 inside linebackers? Where are we picking up that awesome FS? If Fairly/Bowers/etc falls, wouldn't he be a nifty rotation guy?

Von Miller, anyone?

Do we need this lock step thinking at this point? Am I going to be looking at the "Bobby Carpenter or else" CZ once again?

David.

You need big physical ILB's in a 34, not small, fast LB's. Bradie and Lee will be the starters there for at least a few seasons together IMO. If we draft depth at ILB we should be fine.

Safety, CB, OL.. all far more pressing needs for us. I would trade down into the middle teens and get one of the OL guys. Cimiri preferably. Pick up an extra second and take FS Moore and OL Pouncey/Moffit.

Sean Lee has a lot of growing up to do if we're relying on him next year.

I think staying healthy is the biggest concern with him. He's a very intelligent, instinctive player.

here s the perfect draft IMO - in my neck of the woods
Trade down get a extra 2nd or 3rd

1 Derek Sherrod, OT 6-6 #305
Doug Free played well at ROT last year in Columbo's absence and with the top LOT still on the board, why not have the flexibility of 2 athletic young bookends that are interchangeable? Sure makes game-day decisions of whittling down 53 to 45 easier, in the case of deciding on back-up OL in the case of injuries. This is a case where value equals need and is a fine pick by Dallas

2 one of the Safties

2b Watkins/Moffitt/Pouncey

3 Dwayne Harris, WR/KR, East Carolina 6-0 #205
Matt Szczur, WR/RB/KR, Villanova 5-11 #195

4 Rashad Carmichael, CB, Virginia Tech 5-10 #190

5 ISLB Mason Foster, Washington 6-2 #244

You simply don't take RT's in the Top 10. If we're trading down, sure.

Tell me I get a Pro bowl RT at #9 and I'll take him twice on Sunday!

Damn why mess around with a huge need on our OL. If he plays at Pro Bowl level for next 10 years, he is well worth the pick.

at least we should be able to run to the right side once again.

Ehh I see him get ping pong'd and stuck on blocks a lot more than I would like.

He is iffy in space too.

He has a long ways to go imo.

An NFL Offseason will be the best thing for him though.

So I ask, what have you seen to be convinced that Sam Young is a capable starter in the NFL? I agree that not every prospect will represent an immediate upgrade. For example Sensabaugh, no SS in the draft will be an immediate upgrade over him, so why replace him, but based on what we've seen of Sam Young (only okay in pre-season), the number of players that are an upgrade over him is a lot larger

I agree. It's this mentality with OL that has gotten us into the problem we're in. With no other position do we put so much trust in players with such thin skill sets and resumes. Young is a backup until proven otherwise and the burden of proof is on him. Until then, draft some starters, like Carimi.

Because this logic only applies for the OL. I'm not sure where this logic derives from but it does seem to correlate well with our offensive line sucking so badly.

Sure, in that fantasy world where you know what every player is going to be before you draft them, that makes sense.

Last year was the first time in a looong time we took a WR in the first round.
A couple years back was the first time in a long time we took a RB in the first round.

I think it is about time we took an O-Linemen in the first round for the first time in a looong time.

There are a couple of caveats to that...a player or two that I would be willing to trade up for or take if they fell to us.

Otherwise I think we stay put or trade down and finally get a good OT. If he can play LT than all the better.

Or however you spell it. Watched him during the Rose Bowl yesterday and thought he was outstanding in both run blocking and pass protection. If we don't get Peterson, I would take this guy. Play him at RT and we have our bookends for the net decade.

I agree, I would love to grab him in the draft as well as his teammate John Moffitt in the 3rd or 4th rd. Those two guys work great together
