Nice move by Michael Irvin to suggest to the NFL that part of rookie orientation include a vist to the NFL Hall of Fame.

Here's s a paragraph from the Tenn Titans website:

"The decision to send all NFL rookies to the hall as part of their league orientation stemmed from a suggestion by Michael Irvin to commissioner Roger Goodell last summer when the receiver was inducted into the hall. The Titans' rookies flew up Friday night and spent five hours touring the hall on Saturday before heading to the airport for a return trip back to Nashville, Tenn."

I think you are missing the important lesson here. If you work really, really hard, if you give everything you have on the field, if you sacrifice your body for the good of the team, and if you become a vocal leader that others follow, there's no reason why you too can't make it into the Hall of Fame despite numerous drug problems, a league suspension, immoral womanizing, trashcan hurling tantrums in front of the press, wearing a fur coat to your court date, getting creative with locker room hair cuts, and the expectation that "Do you know who I am?" will work with the cops.

Every young player needs that inspiration.

It is kinda ironic that he suggested it after he was voted in, but still.... it's a great idea.

I'm sure there are going to be plenty of young guys who don't understand the meaning of going there, but there are bound to be some that can be grounded from it.

Agreed.

For whatever reason he suggested it, it was a good idea. I do think he has grown up alot. And I do recall Aikman saying more than once that he was the best teammate he ever had.

Todays players could use a history lesson on the foundation of the league that is now employing them.

I knew a sales manager who would take his sales people on a drive every sales quarter. He would drive through rich neighborhoods and ask his people if they wanted houses that he would show them....Good motivation.

We did something similar with my niece. She was thinking about not going to college. We took her into a neighborhood with some amazing houses and asked her what percentage of people that live in that went to college. She just graduated from CU a few weeks ago. Sometimes you have to see or think about the bigger picture before it sinks in.

After High school, or before finishing School, I hadn't decided on what to do in future. All I knew was I wanted to be in Engineering or Technical Field.

My Dad had me taken to a place where they had computers, and I was hooked on since then ( This was in 1984/85, so those Computers were like boxes). So yeah, sometimes looking at things or personally experience certain things, gives you a much better prespective.

Irvin has said, that when he visited HOF, the magnitude hit him really for first time. I think his thinking was, even if 10-20 percent of those Players get influenced by the visit, thats mission accomplished.

If it helps just one of the future Benson's, Pacman's or Tank's, Henry's etc... then it is a GREAT idea.

But then where will the Cowboys get these great players from....

yes a joke... relax :D
