I admit, I have been hard on Dez, but he made some nice grabs today. Glad to see him not blowing up and playing hard for 60 min.

The one thing that continues to worry me is that he rarely seems to be getting any separation from defenders. You saw that today -- he make some great catches with a DB slung all over him.

The problem is that it seems like ALL of Dez's catches there is a DB right there with him.

It's why I believe Romo doesn't throw him the ball very often -- effectively Dez is very rarely open in the traditional sense. He just doesn't separate.

I think you can look at most top WR, and this will be true. Are they double teaming him at first, and you only see the defender staying close to him before he can get separation.
do you expect him to have 5 or 10 yards separation all the time...not going to happen.

I don't know if that is true. I think great WRs are able to read the defenses after the snap, find soft spots in the zone they are running through. Great WRs are able to make adjustments post snap -- and adjust their routes accordingly. In other words, good WRs find ways to separate.

Example -- I am stupified when I watch the Lions that on half of Calvin Johnson's catches, there doesnt' seem to be a DB near him despite the fact he is double teamed about 100% of the time.

There is an art to getting open as a NFL WR -- I'm not sure Dez has learned it.

He's gotta learn to beat the jam and make them pay. They're having success with getting in his face and he's not giving them any reason not to do it.

When all he does is run deep routes it doesn't play to his strength. Dez needs to play inside the numbers. I keep hearing crap how he isn't getting separation but he is a possession receiver. Let him get physical and take it inside. Notice how all of his catches where in the inside of the numbers. Garrett simply cannot maximize the guys skillset. He always looks for the big play. This team doesn't have the talent on the offensive line to wait for the big play to develop.

Calvin gets open because they move him around. If you think he just beats corners with yards of separation split out wide with safety help you don't watch Detroit enough.

The line has to protect if you want to see any significant separation.. That goes for any receiver in any offense. Unless the corner is horrible or not paying attention it is somewhat unreasonable to think that you are going to see a great deal of separation within the first 2 seconds of the play.

Played hard for 60 minutes? He ended up bouncing back for a solid game, but he lazily did not sell his route at all on Romo's pick allowing Talib to jump Austin's route. He also had a play on a fade to Austin on the opposite side of the field where he literally took one step and started walking back to the huddle since the play wasn't coming his way.

I'm still worried about Dez.

I notice this too. It took JG forever to start moving T.O. around also.
