TRADED Glazer: Cowboys trade for DT Quinnen Williams

It’s a great move except nothing matters without the QB.

Nothing.

So…if they use picks to draft a franchise QB while using this move to improve the defense then we’re on to something.

If not we will continue to get boat raced by young promising QB’s in our own Division.

These last two games by Dak are very concerning and he avoided a serious injury last night.

It’s not if it’s when.

And yes Jerry is still an idiot.
You have a franchise QB.

You are not going to get a better QB than Dak. I'd be all for it but it's like betting your mortgage money on winning the lottery.

That is really that simple.

You have to build a team that can win playoff games with the 6th to 9th best QB in the world. If you can't then you don't deserve to win anyway.

But yes, Jerry is an unlikable idiot. No argument there.

They are not going to draft a QB in the first round as long as Dak is on the team bro, you should know that by now.

In fact, Dak is most likely to get extended again because they are not going to carry him at $74 million cap hit next year. So look for a new 2-3 yr extension on Dak's current deal to lower his cap number, meaning you are looking at 2028 or 2029 before you could reasonably move on from Dak.

In other words, there is no plan to replace Dak within the next half decade so those 1st round picks were never going to be used on a QB.
jerry is banking on dak on the way to his death bed, good luck asking for a 1st round QB.

No way. There’s not a team in the league that will win 7 of 8, let alone a sub 500 Cowboy team.

It’s a fantasy.

This entire season has been a disaster. Everything we’ve done has been reactionary with no hint of an actual plan

So depressing.
There is a plan, its just not the plan you want. They are clearly just trying to get by for 2025 and they may luck into getting a wild card, If not this is purely for 2026 where they are going all in. Its a bust if this team doesn't sniff the playoffs in 2026.

Yep, and from most 'Draft Boards', there doesnt seem to be any/many DT's that'll probably hit around 10-late 20's, we dont draft DT's and they take time to get up to strength. Yes there's an issue with timing and cost, but there's the consideration on whether we could get him now (and that his price may rise come draft time).....and lets give him time to play 'Flus' (non-scheme), hopefully it'll help Matt devise some form of D-Line parity.
Correct, You also won't be finding at DT of this caliber in FA also. This was a brilliant move from the Jones.

Local buzz on Williams….

-Fans actually wanted him cut halfway through his rookie year. Top five pick. Cut him. Yep ok.

-He became an absolute stud between year one and two….one of the better DTs in the game.

-He is traded then Jet fans want to talk about how overrated he was.

The guy can play and is exactly what our team has needed for years. I just don’t know if the timing lines up correctly for nice things to happen. These moves should have been made years ago and I bet they’d have at least made the CG at least once (SBs should not be expected).

Notice how Jerry acknowledges his age at 83 but 82 was perfectly fine. He shouldn’t be running that team no matter what he accomplished as a GM, which is about zero.

Edge is the deepest position on the team.
You've hit on a rookie starter there.
You have a mix of olds and kids trying to vie for time.

Now they get some boost in the interior.

What they need is secondary pieces and another LB. We are playing at least 3 LB that should be out of the league.
And our safety depth has proven to be hilariously bad.
Diggs is obviuously going to be cut because they couldn't trade him.
Yeah, I do not fill comfortable running with Kneeland, Williams, Clowney in 2026.

A good head start on the upcoming offseason. I do not see this team making the playoffs this year.

This from ESPN today...

There's no other way to put it: This is a horrific trade for the Cowboys.

It is completely unfathomable for a team like Dallas to be trading away major draft resources for a soon-to-be-28-year-old defensive tackle with declining stats on a salary-heavy contract in a season when it has a 7% chance to make the playoffs, per ESPN's Football Power Index. And yet here we are.

The Jets get an A+
The Cowboys get an F

I'm not trying to be right and I'm hoping like hell you are. I'm no fan of ESPN's analysis sometimes and nobody knows for sure.

I guess what I'm saying is we're on to next year already with Dak who will be 33. Also as I said these last two games are concerning. Has it been the line - receivers not getting open - Dak not seeing things? I don't know maybe we'll be okay, go on a little run with the defense and surprise people but instead of looking forward to the possibilities, I'm holding my breath to the possibilities and that's a hard way to live.

ESPN is just proving they are complete idiots.
Nothing new there.

Dallas has a real talent problem. No one is denying that. They still need an LT and they badly need a backup RB on that offense. That doesn't even touch the defense that needed like 6 guys. But you get 2 large upgrade starters on deadline day and you get 2 more back from injury this week.
All of a sudden you are mid but not trash on defense.
And that gravity boosts everyone's mood and play level.
But this wasn't a one-year trade anyway. If you can't win in this 5-game stretch no biggie. You have 2 R1 picks so rest everyone up, put folks on IR and get ready for 2026 with a top 12 pick.
26, 27, 28 is your window.

But you can't extend Dak and Ceedee and then tank for 2+ years. That would have been criminal.
The one-year reset was the smart play but they failed to do it last year.
And it was probably something they were forced into because Micah hurt Jerry's feelings; but it is very likely to be the more successful route.
I am thankful Micah didn't just take Jerry's 42AAV and keep putting along as a 500 team without any chance to stop the run in a playoff game.

Yeah, I do not fill comfortable running with Kneeland, Williams, Clowney in 2026.
Kneeland is not very good but is a kid that will get a few snaps and a chance to develop.
Williams has been awful and will be gone.

But Fowler, Eze and Clowney ALL have grades above 72 from PFF.
James Houston is a useable 65.

WAS has 1 Edge above a 65, Giants 1 above a 68.

You aren't as good as the Eagles, but you have a very solid Edge group in Dallas.

Now DT a different story. Your starters were ranked 58th and 62nd. You had only 1 back up (Thomas) that wasn't on the bottom of the last page.
You add 6th ranked DT and that looks real different now too.

Edge: Eze 79.6
DT: QWilliams 79.7
DT: KClark 62.2
Edge: Clowney 72.6

DT: Osa 60.4, Thomas 62.8
Edge: Nickel rusher Fowler 81, Houston 65.6

I had to make myself do LB... /gross
But one can hope Logan Wilson and Agent Zero make it unrecognizable.
Murray and Shemar James are the two lowest graded LBs in the NFCE and in the bottom 5 of all LB that qualify.... yikes!!!!.

Interesting that the Cowboys also pursued LB Quincy Williams but were unable to strike a deal.

Graziano: I heard that at one point the Cowboys were talking to the Jets about a deal that would have sent Dallas both Williams brothers -- Quinnen and linebacker Quincy Williams. But that didn’t work out, and the Cowboys pivoted to former Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson.

Today the Jets have demoted Williams to the bench. Odd....

So are we expected to cut Clark after the season now to avoid his cap number next year?
